Transfers 2012/13

How dare they release Watermeyer, don't they know what he represents on this forum?

Ospreys release 10 players:

http://www.thisissouthwales.co.uk/Owen-10-released-Ospreys/story-16346074-detail/story.html

To sum it up:-
Gareth Owen, Barry Davies, Chauncey O'Toole, Stefan Watermeyer, Matt Torrance, Dai Flanagan, Rory Pitman, Ben Thomas, Craig Cross and Ken Dowding.

I'm suprised by Owen's release, he's been injured for the whole of last season so i thought he would have been given a shot. I wanted to see him at fullback next year, hope he can find another region. The Scarlets, Blues or Dragons could use him or even an English club or French one so this isn't the last we've seen of him. In fact i'd push Mallinder at the Saints to try and sign him up, he could be a good 12 for them.

Not surprised by O'Toole's release as he's been crap in every game he's played.

I was very impressed by Watermayer's debut, perplexed that he hasn't played any league games. Maybe they didn't play him more so that they didn't have to pay him.

I wanted to Barry Davies to stay so we would have some experience and at least one out and out fullback in the squad!

I thought Craig Cross looked like a good prospect at tighthead but we've got Aaron Jarvis and Joe Rees. Also, maybe he just hasn't improved in the scrums, Cardiff Blues take note with Scott Andrews!

Dai Flanagan was nothing more than a squad player so i guess Sam Davies will play a bit more next year, especially if Biggar is in the Wales squad.

Not really supirsed by the other releases they are just squad/reserve players so i guess they'll look to the Academy/Welsh prem to bring in some replacements... or not?

I guess that the salary cap being introduced means that they'll have to cut back and have a smaller squad. But i hope that Tandy and co are going to sign up some new players because the back three in particular next year is looking very light

We're still building the squad so i'm not excpeting much in the HC, let's just try and build. Baby steps people! baby steps

Well we know some players have moved on, Flanagan has rejoined Ponty as I posted earlier in the thread and Pitman has gone to Rugby League and joined the South Wales Scorpions.

O'Toole's problem comes from coming straight from playing Semi-Pro rugby and not being able to adapt to full time rugby. I reckon another year he would have been better. He's now signed for The Rock from what I gather.

Craig Cross should have never moved from Llandovery where he was developing quite nicely, was never going to be a world beater. When he arrived at the Ospreys he was quickly converted into a second row and played sparingly for Swansea there. Dowding struggled to cope with pro rugby, I think I've seen somewhere he might go back and join the army again.

Torrance was a scrum half with plenty of potential but playing at Tonmawr he was hardly going to get a look in with the Ospreys.

Well he did have a season with Glasgow before and didn't get very good reviews there either. I even heard that he had a big ego, not sure how much of that i believe

Pitmans problem was injuries and concentration. Both let him down on and off the pitch.

Scarlets should actually look at signing up Craig Cross, they need all the tightheads they can get tbh

1. Gareth Owen - has been in the squad a few seasons now and never really progressed beyond a "prospect", injuries didn't help, neither did heavy rotation around the backline, including into some positions he really didn't excel, doesn't seem that long ago that Scott Johnson was talking him up as the new Henson (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_union/welsh/8329820.stm), I shouldn't think this will be the end of his professional rugby career however, the Dragons are very likely to be interested.

2. Barry Davies - now 31 years old, there wasn't really much point in keeping him, now third choice behind Fussell and Ross Jones he wasn't needed, still with the departures of 5 wingers (Walker, Bowe, Shane, Prydie, K Phillips) and two full backs the Ospreys really need to recruit in this area now

3. Chauncey O'Toole - was signed after a great Churchill Cup with Canada, but never really got many opportunities (just 2 starts) due to the excellence of Tipuric's form, and didn't do much on the pitch to suggest he would challenge Tipuric either, finished the season not much part of the Ospreys squad and played with Canada Sevens, and is now already playing for the Rock in the Canadian Rugby Championship

4. Stefan Watermeyer - only played 2 matches, so hard to judge, but seems a pointless signing if the management signed him and weren't planning to play him, with Sonny Parker, and Gareth Owen departing, I'm concerned about the amount of centres in the squad next season, especially with Beck likely to play more with Wales next season, the Ospreys now have barely more than set of backs with all these departures in the outside backs and no recruitment

4. Matt Torrance - who?

5. Dai Flanagan - another pointless signing, only started 2 matches in 2 seasons with the Ospreys, has signed for Pontypridd

6. Rory Pitman - never saw a lot of him play, but the management clearly didn't rate him if they sent him off on loan to Glasgow (who didn't want to keep him), left the Ospreys early in the season to play Rugby League with South Wales Scorpions (http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sports...s-snap-up-ospreys-rory-pitman-91466-30805429/), now signed for Rotherham in the Championship

7. Ben Thomas - just 21 years old, and just played one LV Cup match, don't know anything about him as a player but the fact he hasn't played and is being released that young suggests the management don't think he has much potential, will probably just stay in the Principality Premiership

8. Craig Cross - hardly part of the squad considering he played 10 LV Cup minutes all season, will presumably go down to Principality Premiership level, probably where he has spent most of his time at the Ospreys anyway

9. Ken Dowding - played 4 minutes all season, same situation as Cross

so i take it james "the wonderman" haskell will be joining us in the aviva preimiship this year? again? also looking at ospreys out players will they have a team next season?

Matthew Torrance was the South African scrum half who was Welsh qualified.
The SRU found out he was also Scottish qualified (lol) and he now plays for the Scotland U20.

Owen could be a decent signing for the Blues, considering they are weak at outside half.

Ah.
Reckon Owen is worth a punt for the Blues or Dragons, decent player just plagued by injuries.
Dai Flanagan is a shocking player who had one good game ever (v Stade for Blues) and has been dining out on it ever since. Ponty boy anyway, so found his level and will be happy to go back home no doubt.
Don't really care about the others - O'Toole I was delighted we signed but turns out he's ****; though I'm disappointed we haven't given Watermeyer, like, any chance at all.

I wouldn't mind Owen on the bench for us, but Steffan Jones and Lewis Robling must be developed first.
If he fancies playing inside centre, then that will do. Granted, Smith is likely to be out captain next year, but considering the curse on captains, it never hurts to have a backup.

i thort shane was retireing from playing rugby but then for the next 2 years he was helping with the academy teams and the community rugby at ospreys.
Weeeeeelll think again!!

Cannot wait for his next last ever game. He's worse than the bloody Rolling Stones.

We should have just given everybody a last match together to save some money; Wellies, Nugget, Shane, O'Driscoll (unless he still thinks he can make the 2017 Lions tour), O'Gara.

It's going by a different name I heard. The... Lions, or something?

Shane's farewell tour

1. Last ever game (for Wales at the World Cup, before deciding he wanted one more after)

2. Last ever game (for Wales)
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/FGrMJhgvAzE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe>

3. Last ever game (before knowing the Ospreys reached the RaboPro12 Semis)
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/LUVz08MqHR8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

4. Last ever game (for the Ospreys)
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/pHB5V-jauFY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

5. Last ever game (Barbarians)

Future touring schedule:

6. Last ever game (Mitsubishi Dynoboars)

7. Last ever game (Brad Thorn like deal with the Ospreys)

8. Last ever game (another Barbarians game vs the Lions in Hong Kong)

I could realistically see that happening
