Transfers 2012/13

See, I don't care what Owen himself thinks, he's not a 10 and I don't want to see him play there again. He was an alright fullback and at one point looked like he'd make it as a centre, but I don't think he's really got much of a chance in the first team, to be honest. Perhaps could make the bench due to his versitlity, but I would rather we brought a 15 in. (Admittedly someone better than Gerrard)

Always maintained that Gareth Owen would make a better centre than fullback, but he could certainly do well at 15 too. Seems like an age since he last played! Just hope he's given a little more gametime under Tandy if he can rediscover some form in the Prem. He'd be an excellent utility player to have back in the squad at the very least.

Alex Crockett (Worcester), Andy Higgins (Sale) and Oliver Tomaszczyk (Worcester) ---> Newcastle

Benoit August has not retired (ex Biarritz) and has signed a further year's contract.............

I have to say im going to miss the Tomahawk, Hes actually pretty good at srcumming only problem is he can't play through a whole match he just isn't fit enough

I just read that Edinburgh's new signing, Esher lock Perry-John Parker, was signed on the basis of a YouTube video on him

and I was wondering is it normal for teams to look on YouTube for potential signings?

Some agents put together "best of" clips of their players and put them on youtube.

For example:

and

Not sure how common it is for clubs to watch/use them though.

Cai Griffiths to London Irish!

Hahahahahaha

On the other hand that's another experienced prop gone for the O's. He ain't great but if we have a propping injury crisis next year we could be in for a repeat of when we had to call off the game against Ulster a few years back because we didn't have any fit props!

Mate, that is the best bit of business we have ever done in the transfer market. He is worse than useless. I couldn't stop laughing when I heard they'd signed him!!

Strange that they said he's replacing Rautenbach as well, i thought he'd be a squad player.

So Tom Smith and the Caiser off to LI. Wonderful.
Still wish he went to the turks, for comedy value.

This is the official London Irish statement on him

The 28 year-old English qualified player has learnt his trade under the tutelage of Wales and British and Irish Lions tight head, Adam Jones, and has developed into a powerful scrummager and key lineout lifter. He is also very effective in the loose and possesses very good handling skills.

London Irish director of rugby, Brian Smith said: "Cai is very solid at the set piece which is crucial when signing a tight head prop. He is a direct replacement for Faan Rautenbach who is leaving London Irish after seven years service. We look forward to welcoming Cai to the Club."

I'd like to take a moment to commend LI for their generosity to others. Hape, iHumph, O'Leary, Griffiths... is there no end to the amount of dross they're willing to take off of others?

you can add Tom "Mr Anonymous" Smith and Scott "Penalty conceding machine" Lawson to that list as well

I reckon with the squad Irish will have next year they could be in a relegation battle. They do have a very good academy though so they should be able to unearth some youngsters.

Seems unlikely. The like of iHumph & T'Ool aren't up to international class, but they're certainly good enough for a top 6 AP side.
