Late to the party but just watched 1917

Heard mixed things about it (same as with Dunkirk) but thought it was superb - fantastically shot, acting was brilliant, story solid. Thought every officer was cast very well, especially liked Moriarty (Andrew Scott) early on
Was good to see WW1 get a showing on the big screen, very very under utilised/untold conflict - it's only really this and All Quiet on the Western Front that I can think of

I think Saving Private Ryan set the bar too high for war films in people's minds because I really liked Dunkirk too (though these are things I've read on social media rather than heard in person and people love being contrary online)

Journeys End is another very good one. But that is more is play. Book is also very good as well.

13 Lives on Prime about the Thai football team who got trapped in the Cave. Really good and just a reminder what a Tosspot Musk is.

An American movie about rugby. And it's pretty good too. 🏉

One can learn a lot from The Thin Red Line

John Wick was always that, yeah. It's in the same category as extraction and nobody. A dumb fun action film.

Bond and the marvel films are a high budget version of those types of films - though, Bond has tried (and failed imo) to be something else.

The first one is actually pretty gritty in comparison to the the last three. The stuntwork is superb though. Its only this and Missions Impossible that are pushing what can be done without CGI in the action genre currently.
