Super Rugby: Hurricanes - Chiefs in Wellington (13/07/2012)

Great start for the Chiefs..... the ref certainly did a good job of blocking the Canes defender though!

Great reply by the Canes now - a very expansive game so far!

Both teams are impressive so far. Lam is still causing issues for other teams and that recent run from Savea was strong.

Lam gone now - Shields on. Canes are now without a genuine 7, with Vito now playing openside, with Shields at 8.

EDIT: Try number 2 for Savea. Great team try too - Shields and Barrett very impressive in the build up.

Justin Marshall is a f***ing clown. It's a diliberate, late, lifting tackle. Penalty at least. Yes a yellow is harsh. But if you are gonna deliberately break foul play laws you should expect refs to pick up on it.

If you let nonsense in backplay go, that's when a ref loses total control of a game.

You can lift, as long as you make sure he returns to ground safely, which he did. And he didn't drive SBW into the ground. Not a great tackle, but I agree with Marshall here. Not even a penalty in my view

Would love to see Justin Marshall put on a refs jumper.

He'd probably develop a split personality and start abusing himself on the field whenever he makes a crap call.

"Holding onto the ball number 6!"

"YOU'VE GOTTA BE KIDDING ME, THE TACKLER DIDN'T EVEN RELEASE. I'M SORRY...BUT THIS IS A JOKE, IT IS SUCH A KEY DECISION HOW CAN YOU DO THAT"

*starts punching himself in the face"

Looks like a try for the Chiefs now for Tameifuna..

Which I'm aware of, and Kaplan is.

which he did.

No. Bringing someone to ground safetly doesn't include dropping them on their head, no matter how harmless it might look. SBW made the landing safe, not May.

And he didn't drive SBW into the ground.

Irrelevant. Foul play law says nothing about driving a player to ground.

If you listen again, Marshall watched the replay and said it was a penalty offence. I agree with him, but not with his outburst, in real time I can understand a ref giving a yellow with the facts at hand. Late, lifting tackle, which was deliberate as well. (penalty offence, but you can give yellow if it's bad)

Refs clamp down on this stuff, because 1 deliberate late challenge always leads to another, which leads to another, which leads to fights.

Been a great game so far! Neither Cruden or Barrett appear to have brought their goal-kicking boots though.

Kerr-Barlow has been outstanding for the Chiefs, while Horrell has probably been the pick of the Chiefs backs. SBW has had a mixed games - some good runs, but some poor handling too. Tameifuna has been the pick of the Chiefs forwards for me.

Vito has been good for the Canes, and Brad Shields has been great since he came on - he really is a beast! Barrett has looked very sharp, Smith has been Smith, while all of the Canes back three have looked very dangerous.

Really looking forwards to the second half!

Wow, this game is all over the place!

EDIT: Beautiful pass by Barrett - he put Cruden straight through the gap

Shocking penalty miss by Barrett now...then kicks a harder one 2 mins later....
