Springbok Emblem RWC 2011 Jerseys

I agree on not buying the shirt but staying away from matches because of this is ridiculous

Just think of the merits of what you are saying. So you lose out on the sale of a couple of hundred rugby jerseys, whilst the older ones are selling, no issue in that. Still plenty support, so keep going. But the whole brand starting to lose an audience is making a statement, especially if the sponsors are losing out. Where do you propose the limit is for making a loud statement? One that forces the politicians to take notice? Because that is the only place where it matters!

So you would lower yourself to the level of SARU and the government by rejecting the players who are actually representing us on the field? That is just plain stupid. It will not help and you give the players the feeling nobody supports them.

Exactly. Lets stop supporting the team because of a logo!

Yes, it is not a permanent arrangement. You still watch it on TV. You just make a statement by hurting them where it matters most, in the pocket!

Making a statement towards the Union is not something you do by staying away from matches. And Logorrhea was being sarcastic (I hope haha)

And on the pitch! Hopefully the team fails too and we can all blame the politicians because they moved a logo.

Look making a stand for something that matters, is usually not popular. And it can hardly be construed as stooping to the level of SARU. They make the rules and enforce political ideology. When you make it clear, in a well organised campaign, that the empty stadia is because of a politically motivated logo, the players will know you are not rejecting them but the logo, hell, they may even support you.

Yes, maybe you are right. Lets all say nothing and cry in our sleep over it and allow more political interference. Like that makes sense!

Maybe we can just stop crying about this and just move on! Once the World Cup is over, the Springbok will be back on the chest. It's actually the IRB's fault because they want the IRB logo on the right side of the chest where the Springbok emblem is

You are right we should, but it doesnt make me feel any better about it. To me the whole thing is about the message SARU is sending the SA public. They have pushed the issue to the point where the emblem is not on the chest anymore. They are going to wait it out and push it even further by removing it all together, and why not? What has the SA public done to show SARU that their message of representing political ideology instead of what the public wants is not acceptable?

Just to make it clear: The reason the Springbok is moved to the Sleeve is because it is on the exact same spot where the RWC 2011 emblem should be. Who says that if the Protea was on that spot, it wouldn't be the other way around?

Well it is hard to say! The fact of the matter is that the Springbok logo's rightful place is on the left. As long as that is there, I do not care what else they put on or where. The national emblem of the Protea does not take preference when the official naming and logo of the team is the Springbok! With that said, I am fully convinced that moving the Springbok emblem is all part of finding no space for it and eventually removing it. As far as the message is concerned, it is clear that in the minds of SARU and the government the team is not officially recognised as the Springboks anymore!

Well, if that is the case, why didn't I hear anyone about this in 2009 when the Protea appeared on the shirt for the first time which moved the Springbok to the other side of the chest?

There was quite a lot of public outcries. I'm surprised you didn't hear about it. In any case there is precious little the public can do about it . That was the first of the slow death and many saw it coming but what can you do? Anyway, hope the emblem at least gets back on the jersey after RWC time and they can sort it out before the next one.

That was probably right after I left SA (April 2009) because when I was there, I heard nobody complain.

I won't buy it, the only reason being the crappy design of Canterbury. Even if the Springbok was on the front, I would not get this shirt

Just saw this on another forum. The exact same thing happened to the Aussies in 2007. Nobody gave a ****.

True, but the difference is the political weight that hangs on the Protea symbol

true that Ezequiel. the politicians here just changes everything for no reason at times. who so ever we are going to vote for next elections, will feel stronlgy and say the Jersey's symbols should be changed completly to something we do not know, prepare for the change of the name...LOL.... you cant tell what the politicians in SA have in their heads.

Anyway the design is not nice, i hopefully the next one will look good
