Spring Tour:New Zealand vs Ireland - 1st Test. (09/06/2012, 08:35 GMT)

Pretty sure they were releasing.

****** my alarm didn't work properly so I only got up at 9 with my sky box turning on just in time for Savea's first. Trying to take positives are hard they're all in the forwards with our scrum being pretty good until Loughney came one, the lineout ran well and on defense we were excellent at the breakdown. I'll talk about the negatives later but I have to say as usual Kidney's substitutions were ill timed and the wrong ones.

To be fair to Kidney, by the time he was going to make any subs NZ were already far ahead.

True but this is a regular occurence. No matter how the match is going. For example RO'G is not the player you want for chasing a game from that far behind. He also got the team selection and gameplan completely wrong.

Ah, I thought that you made subs as and when they were needed rather than by deciding which sub to use and when prior to the game even starting! If they were too far ahead, he should not have made them!

Ha. Very droll.

My point was that it didn't matter which subs DK made, other than trying to make sure players wouldn't get injured from being tired etc., because they were never going to make a difference.

Back to the breakdown reffing again - notice there's a big difference in the Oz/Wales game with a SH referee.

We got ****ed in the arse as I predicted ..just shows we're always but a few injuries away from not being competitive at international level..

With Hook on, it presumably means the Welsh are stuck with Priestland at 10 for the match......any chance they will move him to 15 and bring Hook to 10?

Anyone notice any difference in the "reffing" of the breakdown between this and the Irish game....must admit, I have not?

Sorry wrong thread!!!

Ireland seemed to lose confidence in their ability to run with the ball and threaten the New Zealand line, which is silly because they looked dangerous and were small margins away from crossing the tryline. But the result of losing confidence in your running play is that you get a load of aimless boxkicks from your scrum half which has just gifted New Zealand perfect counter attack material
Murray always does that anyway. He has the wrong gameplan.

We competed very well at the breakdown but their backs tore us apart. McFadden was caught out defensively a lot the same happpened for shane Williams' try in the rp12 final. Hes becoming a defensive liabilty, his attacking doesn't make up for it either.

Dagg had a good game, savea was impressive on debut and Conrad smith was brilliant. Sonny bill was poor, he gave away a lot of possession and didn't carry particularly well. Dan carter was good and I liked the partnership with cruden. Aaron smith was good so were read and whitelock

In fairness - you lost that in the backs, and only Bowe is first choice and injured.

The rest was all Kidney.

He's not saying we're the only ones with injuries but that our depth in some positions is terrible which is true.

The Irish forward pack is very good, it's your backs that let you down, they look indecisive, not in anyway clinical and they lack depth. It's incredibly predictable to defend against, which is why your only try came from a kick and chase. European teams do suffer because of the way they play club games.

The backs selection was poor and we have a defense coach coaching attack. The Leinster and Ulster players at least are both used to playing an expansive game. Leinster are the best attacking team in Europe for God's sake and have plenty of invention.

Leinster play some of the most attractive running rugby in the world.

Ireland's problems have nothing to do with how our clubs play...if our Club play correlated with our international rugby we'd be quality.

Ireland's problem is Declan Kidney.
