South African Mark Lawrence announced his retirement as a Test referee Monday to concentrate on mentoring and coaching.

Man, that sucks... He is one of the best referees we have in the Southern Hemisphere and deserved to be at the World Cup... He is always straight forward to the players, strict and really has the ability to see things, unlike lets say Wayne Barnes haha.

Yep, I think his player management was good ... It will be a great loss to the international refereeing stocks

I'm not a huge Mark Lawrence fan either, but I never thought his appointment would really change the outcome of the match, which is rare for many referees.

Agree. Seen him ref CC this year and he has done very well.
Yeah scrums and breakdowns can be a problem, but who honestly can manage them?
