South Africa squad for England tests

Plays for Bourgoin, boet ;)

+1 for your impressive rugby knowledge.

Ever thought of starting a rugby club in Nederland? I'm sure you could get a couple of Boerseuns to join and bolster the ranks (and sign Visser before he gets a Scottish cap!).

I am a rugby freak, that's for sure, but in Holland the popularity of rugby is second to none. We have football, hockey, baseball, basketball, volleyball, netball all being more popular.

I'll just stick to following SH rugby and brag a bit on TRF with my knowledge haha

It also helps that you're an IT expert and know how to use a search engine :p

I actually worked for a company called "IT Experts" in your hometown ;)

Already a capped player, right?
Just flaunt it whenever someone on here gets a bit cocky.

Kanko over Josh Straus?

Don't agree with the above, but I'm ready and willing to be proven wrong.

You can't deny that there does seem to be a bit of a bulls bias.

Posted this in the England thread by mistake.

I need to digest this before I comment. Sleep on it.

For what it's worth it seems that Siya Kolisi, Arno Botha, Frans Malherbe, CJ Stander, Francois Venter and Piet van Zyl – will train with the Boks during the series. For the sake of them learning the Bok set-up.

Maybe I'm missing something, but where is Brussow? He may not have been in the best form this season, but he is still head and shoulders above any other South African openside flanker! The breakdown is one area where I thought South Africa could really expose England, but without Brussow this advantage is completely gone.

There are some other strange omissions to me too: I would have though Alpon and Joe Pieterson would have warranted selection too (especially over a player such as Kirchner), and I'm surprise not to see de Jongh there too. Hmm... I clearly don't follow South African rugby closely enough!

Seriously Meyer...WTF. Should of seen it coming I guess. I would elaborate on which picks I disagree with, but there are to many. I'm actually gutted right now.

Cheers for putting the list in order. I did not know a number of the newer players if I am honest to break it down without looking a tool.

It sort of puts my disappointment at the inclusion of 1 or 2 players in the AB's squad into perspective!

Three Stormers??
I don't like the Weepee boys, but they can play (and talk) some rugby ;)
I can't help but feel the inclusion of Daniel and Alberts is undeserved.

I'm glad to see Coetzee there, but there a few shockers.

Kankowski? Really? and Zane?

If they waste Lambie on Fullback and put Steyn on 10, then nothing has changed since the PdV times. I'm a bit glum, but I can only hope the plan is too play an experienced side and bring the newcomers in slowly.

I think Kollisi really deserves a spot, and Joe Pietersen.

No Brussow, de Jongh or Aplon is unbelievable. Engelbrecht, Kankowski, Kirchner and Olivier should be nowhere near a Boks squad.

+1. Kankowski hasn't shown too much for the Springboks, but he has hardly played enough rugby this season to even be considered.
I think Meyer has already lost a great deal of support, not good before they have even played a match.
How some of these players were selected is beyond me. I don't want to put a Bulls link onto it, but simply looking at the squad, it looks like that.
I don't know, maybe he wants to start off with players he knows well. Gatland selected 13 Ospreys in his first match and did well enough against England ;)

How does somebody like JJ or Basson get the nod over Aplon?Oh yeah.....

As a outsider I can understand the inclusion of Basson - he is among the leading try scorers in the competition (as he was last season), and is great in the air (which I think is essential with Morne Steyn at 10!). I would certainly have included Aplon, though it would have been at the expense of Kirchner - even though Aplon is not a specialist fullback, he is still a much better fullback than Kirchner!

The fact that the Stormers can be leading the South African conference, yet get only 3 players in the squad is pretty bizarre!
