Piet van Zyl is de scrum-half currently playing for the Cheetahs and he is one of the big surprises this season.

Fourie du Preez said he wants to focus on his career in Japan but stated he is available for international duty.

Piet van Zyl is the Cheetahs scrumhalf... very young and very nippy, and a bloody good tackler.

No news so far on the FdP story yet. But Ruan been is confirmed to be part of the training squad. The Final squad will be announced immediately after the Bulls vs Stormers game from Loftus. So I guess we'll know then who is definitely in his plans.

Meyer won't try anything 'new' with no time to prepare so it's HIGHLY likely that FdP will start.

Piet van Zyl brings a running game and defense to the position; he was a center up until end last year and has been in great form for the Cheetahs.

Or getting 2 PvZ's mixed up. The Piet van Zyl you're probably talking about is Namibian international Piet van Zyl, born in 1979 in Worcester, South Africa. The scrum-half Piet van Zyl was born in 1989 in Pretoria.

Personally I think that would be the best combination. However I get a feeling that they won't want to start 2 rookie locks, which may be bad news for Etzebeth. I'd predict that they will go with van der Merwe and Kruger starting (and Etzebeth off the bench).....but I'm certainly no expert on South African rugby!

Etzebeth looks like he needs a rest. We have seen the toll of the Stormers extensive defence on the players already. No wonder Bekker is out.

I'm not sure whether he played for the Boland before going to Cheetahs but there is another PvZ who is a Namibian... looks like all the Namibians who play in SA end up at the Cheetahs.

That was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the news that Bekker is out. Poor Etzebeth. Probably going to do bench duty while he is the stand-out SA lock ATM. Bekker hasn't had his best season thus far with that bad back. They should have let Elstadt, Etzebeth and De Kock have carried the workload and have sorted Bekker out 100% but I guess with the injuries in the backrow they needed Elstatd there and wanted experience where they could have it. As is, the Stormers are playing without a single Bok in the pack.
