[RWC2023] Wales vs Fiji (10/09/2023)

At least Pearce is good. Was a real breath of fresh air watching him officiating the Aus game.

Really throws into stark contrast watching Waco Jaco or O'Queeffe neurotically stumble around the field periodically remembering and forgetting random rules.
England's ref output is bizarre. Pearce and Barnes, to Carley and Dickson.at least there's some good ones though.

239 tackles - 70… not necessarily something that would prompt optimism under normal circumstances but that is 'some' work rate under those conditions and will hopefully serve up a little of what those youngsters need for a few games in the future.
I knew Wales put in a lot of tackles, but that's more than I thought, and we didn't make Fiji work like we should either. Many of those tackles were big old collisions too!

Edit. Final tackle stats are actually 281 - 93 acording to ESPN!

Well the confirmed stats are even more impressive considering their stage of development. Boys for sure… but hopefully boys who're looking to man' up.

So didn't see it but was Fiji really robbed or neutrals just wanted to see a Fiji win over the filthy sheep shaggers?
Would of been a lot closer if the English ref had officiated properly , hope that helps pal

How scabby are Wales?. Play very little good rugby, try to buy penalties, deliberately kill the ball on their own line every time they are under pressure and to top it all off, consistently time waste when the opposition have momentum. It's infuriating to watch.

Matt Carley was disgusting tonight. 3/4 Welsh infringements on their own line - nothing, one Fiji maul collapse - sin bin. The standard of refereeing at International level has never been worse. At least half of these referees wouldn't have been anywhere near a RWC 15/20 years ago. Fiji were absolutely cheated there, i really would go that far.

I'm sick of it at every single RWC. They are only interested in the same 8/9 countries making it to the Quarter Finals. They don't want a wonderful Fiji team to qualify. Tier 1 bias is a thing and it's absolutely wretched. Fiji would beat Australia next week in a fair fight, but we all know it won't be.
Oh yeah I remember when I was like this but still not quite this bad..

Do casual/new fans understand how and why Fiji got screwed so badly? We're all over it but we all watch way too much rugby as it is. WR probably thinks it's great that it created an exciting match.
Casual fans don't understand the sport at all. Honestly, half the time I don't know what the **** is going on and I've watched it my whole life and played it.

Rugby isn't exactly... accessible.

It's also really quite awkward for World Rugby as to when this terrible performance happened. I've not seen a performance so bad from a referee since Bryce Lawrence in 2011, but that was (for better or for worse) at the quarter final stage and World Rugby could just decide on other refs than him from picking him, and then he was completely phased out from elite panels within a year (and of course there was some really unfortunate backlash that he received).

This is the first round. World Rugby have Carley to ref two more games (France vs Namibia, New Zealand vs Italy). But really we would want him yanked out of the rotation.

I really thought the main ref that may be responsible for a bottle job would be Andrew Brace… I guess he could still do that. *Looks up who he is assigned to ref in the group stages* - Oh, of course Andrew Brace is assigned to Australia vs Fiji… of course he is. (Also England vs Samoa, why have we trusted this man with some of the biggest games in terms of upset potential)
