[RWC2023] England vs Japan (17/09/2023)

Well, in the end, Wales and England are leading their groups and will probably qualify, they might even meet one another and one of them can reach the semis 🙄

I think England are more or less guaranteed a semi final, Fiji their biggest threat who I think will be bet if they get that far. Have 6 weeks to come up with a game plan to ambush one of the top 4, they could get lucky and meet NZ who they caused a lot of trouble for last year too.

Most likely team to make the final from this side of the draw.

Hopefully not though because it's shocking stuff to watch.

Is it really that surprising? Most Japanese people - even their sportsmen - tend to be on the smaller side, so they need to be bigger and bulkier to compete.
Well they didn't do that in 2019 and they got to the QF in an arguably tougher group. There is zero finesse in this side.

Not for the first time this past month I will say it is clear Ford and Smith both being on the park is good for England.

Fair to say England had the rub of the green but Japan didn't do anywhere near enough to put themselves in a position to win that game.

Meh. Australia vs Fiji was the best game today it seems. I don't know how anyone can take much from this England vs Japan game. Both were pretty poor.

Well they did beat Scotland and Ireland then

I enjoy a kicking game, some well placed icks and good competition putting pressure pn your opponents, that was not that. Last we we dominated the defencive game so running it was hard and pinned them back, this week seemed almost passive in defence again.

When they attacked we looked they didnt know each other.

Smith and Lawrence really added something. Steward used how he was for the try then yes its a good plan but he makes so many mistakes and adds little to the attack exept the one off carry.

Just a terrible game.

England's group is like a bunch of wild cards that's been piled together - see what happens. The level of rugby played in this group, is like a league below the rest
