RWC: South Africa vs Fiji (17-09-2011, 18:00)

Crap thing is that Viljoen is already 28 now... Which makes him 32 in 2015... Still, we have some amazing talent coming through the ranks with Coetzee, Cronje, Sithole, Richards, Herbst, Marais (Sharks), Kolisi, Poolman, Sadie, Koster, Engelbrecht, Elstadt (WP), Goosen, Ebersohn (Cheetahs), Taute, Janjties (Lions) who can all make the Bok squad in the next couple of seasons...

I suspect that Ezequiel created a vBookie event on a NZ-Morocco match and gave 1000/1 odds to a NZ win and told no one about it. There is no other explanation for all that vcash.

Actually, I put 100.000 (which I spend a long time achieving) on Griquas against Sharks as a bet with a friend and Griquas won... The odds were 7/1 ;)

If Fiji score the first try they can cause an upset, or at least come close. I remember 2007 it looked like SA were going to thrash Fiji until Delasau scored one individual try that lifted Fiji right back into the game

Fiji side named:

15-Kini Murimurivalu, 14-Vereniki Goneva, 13-Gabirieli Lovobalavu, 12-Seremaia Bai, 11-Napolioni Nalaga, 10-Waisea Luveniyali, 9-Nemia Kenatale, 8-Sakiusa Matadigo, 7-Akapusi Qera, 6-Dominiko Waqaniburotu, 5-Wame Lewaravu, 4-Leone Nakarawa, 3-Deacon Manu (captain), 2-Sunia Koto, 1-Campese Ma'afu.

Replacements: 16-Tuapati Talemaitoga, 17-Waisea Nailago, 18-Netani Talei, 19-Sisa Koyamaibole, 20-Vitori Buatava, 21-Nicky Little, 22-Ravai Fatiaki.

Yeah I wonder what happened to Habana after 2007, pressure? Wait didn't he get married? A woman would explain everything...

He went to the Stormers!! got too much ball and now doesn't know what to do with it...

Johann Muller wasn't picked because he has a hamstring injury.

I'm Happy with the squad, hope to see some Lambie magic!!

To be fair, Habana only moved to the Stormers in 2010 after being complete KAK for 2 whole years already.

Sometimes it just does not work out, eh?

Was trying to point out you put 'Akona' instead of Odwa ;)

Ah, shamefur dispray by me

Why... WHY ODWA?! WHY?! Aplon and Hougaard are miles better, WHY?!

I didn't think it was possible for PDiv to be a bigger idiot, but well done Piet Helium, you just outdid yourself you ....ing roomyskind.

Smit and Spies shouldn't be there but we know PdV can't take someone out of his perceived best XV (biggest name XV); it's just an impossible mental excersize for him. Guess Petersen as well. But surely Ndugane shouldn't be starting ahead of either Aplon or Hougaard. Other changes make sense though even if I think Juan de Jongh can count himself unlucky. When/if he comes on he'll probably be undercooked because of zero gametime..

As much as I like Fiji, if SA cannot put 40 points on this current Fiji team, then they have issues.

Fiji struggled with namibia, and Samoa just comfortably put namimbia away yesterday without really raising a sweat.

Samoa-Wales this weekend will be interesting... imagine If Wales win that one, then somehow Samoa get over SA.... it may come down to points difference...

Nah, I don't think the amounts count for much. It's if the team systems get implemented accurately. Things aren't as linear as you put them; SA could win this game with 9 points after say NZ put 80 past them and then go on to beat NZ as an example; different mechanics; SA make games tight.

If it was up to me, the starting 15 would have looked like this, considering injuries and all:

15. Pat Lambie
14. Gio Aplon
13. Jaque Fourie
12. Juan de Jongh
11. Francois Hougaard
10. Butch James
9. Ruan Pienaar
8. Willem Alberts
7. Schalk Burger
6. Heinrich Brüssow
5. Gerhard Mostert (being called up due to injuries in the lock positions)
4. Bakkies Botha
3. Jannie du Plessis
2. Bismarck du Plessis
1. Gurthrö Steenkamp

16. John Smit
17. Tendai Mtawarira
18. Johann Muller
19. Pierre Spies
20. Fourie du Preez
21. JP Pietersen
22. Odwa Ndungane

Or is that too far of a stretch?

I'm with you except for that I think FdP is still our best bet and he needs as much gametime as he can get to recapture his accuracy; the willingness and aptitude still seems to be there but not the execution.. yet. Also, it's not as if Pienaar has been tearing up the scene at 9 in recent matches.

Well, if it was up to me for the RWC squad, I would have picked Riaan Viljoen to go with the Boks as full-back so we have Lambie at fly-half...

In an alternative world, Viljoen had 3 years playing with the Boks (Kirschner never got a call up) and has been 1 of the reason we have dominated world rugby in that time. We end up choking at the SF of the RWC though after coming into the tournament as run-away favorites T_T

@ heineken: Pretoria... Isn't that the city where talent dies a slow and painful death? ;)

@ stormer2010: I am with you on du Preez, but Pienaar is not an amateur... He was voted player of the year in the Magners League, a competition with guys like O'Driscoll, Shane Williams, Tommy Bowe, Sean O'Brien, Toby Faletau, James Hook and many many others... I think he deserves a chance as well, at least after the RWC before we give Hougaard the spot for the next 10 years

Yeah! that's why we have the most capped Springbok in Rugby history playing for us, and why we have a minimum of 6 Springboks every year in the squad...

I get your point... funny though, guys like Derick Hougaard, Francois Hougaard, Johan Sadie, JJ Engelbrecht etc. wants to come to the Bulls at a young age so that their talent can die...

So they can get big bucks rather. Can't blame them though.

the difference is Namibia only had 3 days rest from the Fiji game to play Samoa, Samoa had their full strength side play them and got a similar scoreline to Fiji, both scored 6 tries against Namibia and conceded 2 tries, only difference in the scoreline was Namibia went for a 58 metre penalty and 3 drop goals against Fiji

Robbie Wessels mvid just got me in the mood for rugby, can't wait. SA by 30 ;)

I feel sorry for Houghaard he should have started instead of Ndungane, he played really well comming from the bench last week. Alberts should get a start we know what we got in Spies (or is that what don't have?) I would also rest Brussowe cause hes our most important player and hes fragile we need this oak doing the damage come quater finals time. Im fed up seeing John Smit get the nr.2 shirt because of hes captaincy i didn't see much "captaining" comming from him during the last game when our backs was against the wall, just because arguable Mallet ****ed up back in 1999 with Teichman doesn't mean the same will happen again, we've got so many leaders on the field Matfield, Burger, DeVilliers and if I remember right it was the most experienced bok side to ever walk on a pitch against Wales. No need for Porky Smit the only thing you ever see him do is jogging towards a ruck at 1kmp. I'd make Du Preez captain for this game or atleast Vice Captain while Matfield is out, it was inspiring to see him give a speech to the few players that stood around him towards the end of the Welsh game, you can see those players were shocked cause Du Preez is normaly shy quite bloke but it got into their heads they drilled out the last 10mins and we got the underserved won, but World Cups is all about momentum... a good victory on Saturday can push us in the right direction. Come on Boks!
