What I'd like to see ITO the matchday 22 looking forward in this tournament;

Don't rush Matfield back. Put out a 1st choice squad as we need the time together and shouldn't take Fiji lightly.

1 Guthro Steenkamp
2 Bismarck du Plessis
3 Jannie du Plessis
4 Danie Rossouw
5 Johann Muller (c)
6 Heinrich Brussow
7 Schalk Burger
8 Willem Alberts - Spies went AWOL when the chips were down.. as usual
9 Fourie du Preez - needs gametime and a lot of it
10 Patrick Lambie
11 Francois Hougaard - just as eager as Habana but on form and focused
12 Juan de Jongh - JdV shouldn't be 1st choice even if he were 100% fit. I'd prefer JdJ and F Steyn at 12 in any case
13 Jaque Fourie
14 Gio Aplon - JP hasn't looked his best
15 Frans Steyn - needs game time to lose those extra 5kg's

16 Tendai Mtawarira
17 Chiliboy Ralepelle
18 Pierre Spies (Alberts can shift to lock if need be)
19 Francois Louw
20 Ruan Pienaar
21 Morne Steyn - even though his defense cost us a lot of back paddling against Wales
22 Akona Ndugane

Almost but my dream team would be:

1. Steenkamp
2. BdP
3. JdP

4. Danie Rossouw
5. Johan Muller

6. Heinrich Brussouw
7. Schalk Burger
8. Willem Alberts

9. Francois Hougaard
10. Pat Lambie

11. Bryan Habana

12. JdJ
13. Fourie

14. Gio Aplon

15. F Steyn

Ah if only we had Juan Smith to captain the bokke!

I just dont see us winning with FdP/Steyn, unless this was a once-off **** match for FdP. Why did he have to get surgery! JP Pietersen wasn't that good at all, we need Aplon.

vBookie Springboks - Fiji

Who will win? Will Fiji finish the job this time or will the Springboks survive again like 4 years ago?

If P. Divot keeps playing Smit then I swear I'm going to punch something.

May I suggest a certain national rugby coach? Stick his head on a punchbag and vent your anger :p.

go fiji go!

matfielfd and de Villiers injured...we have a chance!!! only way i can see fiji beating S.A is play it fijian style..scrap the gameplan and have fun lol

Well we had some good news... Habana is also out for this game! bring on Hougaard!

Also Bakkies Botha started training again yesterday, but Johann Muller pulled out with a hamstring injury...

**Cough** Odwa ** Cough**

Well, there is that extra spot on the bench and against Fiji I'd rather have the extra back than the 5-2 bench split. Ndungane hasn't had a bad game for SA IMO; not near my fav choice but with injury and the squad selected..

Almost but my dream team would be:

1. Steenkamp

3. JdP

4. Danie Rossouw
5. Johan Muller

6. Heinrich Brussouw

9. Francois Hougaard
10. Pat Lambie

11. Bryan Habana

12. JdJ
13. Fourie

Yeah, I'm with you but still think FdP is the man to get us past the SF and bag the final; he can take control of a game like Hougaard can't or at least hasn't shown he can yet and with our backs against the wall (which it is IMO) a 30 minute patch where the old FdP turns up is what'll get us through (just look at FdP delaying the pass and popping it up for Hougaard to win the game against Wales). Mark my words.

Hate to break it to you but with SA and PdV injuries usually translate to the matchday 22 containing more on form players. Add Habana being out and Muller also under an injury cloud and SA gets about 10 extra points IMO. Likely replacements;

JdV - the in-better-form JdJ
Matfield/Muller - Bakkies Botha is back possibly otherwise he'll be on the bench with Alberts at lock
Habana - Hougaard/Aplon both in good form

I agree with you that Fiji should look to play to their strengths and if the ball bounces the right way and depending of ref interpretations Fiji might well get there. I'm just hoping for a more structured game and a lot more accuracy from our guys (particularly FdP) and we should make it.

Shouldn't we look to call up another lock and send someone home at this stage?

Bekker out before the tourney even began, Botha, Matfield and now Muller carrying small injuries. We'll end up playing with two backrowers in Alberts and Rossouw and who knows on the bench against Fiji.

Who though? Flip or Franco Van der Merwe? Mostert? Steenkamp?

I read on Sport24.co.za that Francois Louw has been training at lock alongside Danie Rossouw...

Wow. Imagine Bismarck, Brussow and Louw all in one team... 12 turnovers wouldn't be unlikely. But then you'd need guys like Hougaard, Alon, Lambie or De Jongh who could actually be dangerous off of a quick turn-over.

You know, i would never have thought that we would have a problem at lock while our stalwarts are still in contension. and it's a fair question to ask Who we must send in their place. My first opinion will be to pick someone who has already played for the boks. Someone like Flip or Mostert. I don't really like Hargreaves, he's not really at that level yet.

But what about Steven Sykes? what the hell happened to him?

I'd go for Flip or Mostert as well but maybe the staff think the other guys will be ready; bit of a gamble though IMO. Sykes has signed for Leinster and is probably already in Ireland.

The other guy we can call up off course is Wikus van Heerden... though i think he's past his prime... but he's still a bloody good fetcher!

We have so many loose forwards that are tall and good line-out jumpers that it shouldn't really bother us as much as it is.

Pierre Spies, Schalk Burger and Francois Louw are all the lengths of other nations first choice locks, and we are really blessed to have so many guys over 2m tall. These guys are also good line-out jumpers, they just need to get used to the scrummaging part of the job.

Bekker, Smith, Matfield, Botha, Muller, Habana, De Villiers. With the exception of Bekker all these injured guys played in the 2007 RWC. Apart from the form issue, it looks like these older guys are dropping like flies. Age or a lack of match fitness? I'd wager it's the latter.
