RWC: Canada - Japan (27-09-2011, 17:00)

Don't tell me shut up, what are you 10?

You said Fiji would own all the minnows, I have pointed that based on perfomance that isn;t the case. You then added players who aren't playing which kind of destroys your argument.

If were adding players that aren't playing, then I want Sidney Crosby, Ryan Getzlaf and Shea Weber, because really that's the same argument.
Did you watch the France games or are you caught out and just talking crap? Both games were hardly a sunday stroll. Drop the arrogance man.

I was just having a laugh

I watched those games, you must remember France are a schizophrenic team. When they play good their extremely good, when their bad their terrible.
They never looked flustered in both of those games, they did it with ease when they put their moves together.

Do you really think Sidney Crosby, Ryan Getzlaf and Shea Weber are in the same league as Nacewa?

Fiji actually played quite well against Samoa, they blew a few try scoring opportunities in that game. The scoreline was not reflective of the game.

The same can be said of the South African game, but for a shorter period of time. South Africa really turned it on that game. It was quite even in the first 20 minutes.

Pity Fiji didn't get to play one of those teams to prove me right.

Haahahahahahaha... I like both of these two teams I'l support them in future

Great game wish there was another twenty minutes. Feel pretty bad for Japan, they were close to getting their first win but congrats to Canada for sticking with it

Well I think we've got third in the bag. Japan are out of the running, we have 6 points and Tonga have 5. Unless they manage to beat France, the best they can hope for is a bonus point, which would tie them with us even if we don't do anything against the All Blacks. Even if we do tie, I believe the tiebreaker is the winner of the match between the two tied teams, so we'd get third.

You are correct. Tonga would either have to get a 2-point loss against France, or pull an upset. (Or draw them, which would be an upset as well).

As well Canada can't get a(Yes I know very unlikely) bonus point or result against NZ.

If Canada get a bonus point in their match then it won't matter what happens between France and Tonga.

However, France vs. Tonga is being played the day before New Zealand vs. Canada, so it could very well not matter by kickoff time for the Canadians.

I'm not sure how I feel about this game, the first half was just so bad from Canada, I'm dissapointed, but also thankful as things could have been worse. I really think we missed Pritch, credit to Monro though he didn't expect to be kicking the points today. Sean White and Kyne looked great off the bench as well.

None of that would be proven right so I guess it doesn't matter.

France was flustered in both and will be again against tonga. They were not able to put any moves together until the end of the game where France ran up the score for the BP against tired players and 2nd string. Happened in both games. As many French supporters have said, France played those games to ensure the win.
Sidney Crosby is probably the best player in the world. Shea Weber is a tenacious defender.
Fiji was outclassed against Samoa. Samoa was off form and missed a lot of tackles they should have made. The scoreline flattered Fiji.
So Fiji lasting 20 minutes against South Africa proves that they are the best minnow team? What does that make Ireland vs USA, or Georgia vs Scotland. Hell even USA vs Australia was relatively close after 20 minutes. bad point to try an make.
Pity this Fiji team is ranked 16th.

Good game for Japan today. Controlled the game very well and deserved to win.
Not trying to take anything away from Japan here, but Canada played very bad at stretches for the game. Was happy to see them push back but felt a that they play sloppy for a majority of the game.

Boy, what a game!

When Riordan and Fairhurst were subbed off I was ready to pull my hair out (why make our lineout even shittier?), but both ended up playing quite well, especially White. Nice to see Monro slot the penalty at the end there, had he missed that he would have been the reason we lost. Had Pritchard stayed in I think Canada ends up winning this game.

Now we just need to pray that Tonga doesn't pull the biggest upset in RWC history and beat France and we automatically qualify for England in 2015! Additional IRB funding and more tests against tier 1 opposition, gotta love it. Automatic qualification- in progress since 1991.

Vive la France!

Agreed. Canada didn't really show up till the second half when they were probably the better team. Credit to Japan though, they dominated the first half.

PS- Looking forward to seeing how Phil Mackenzie acquits himself with the London Wasps this year, outside of DTH he's our best back by far.

I guess I got to start sporting my Canada jersey at certain Saints games then.

I think, for once, our backs haven't been a weakness. All of them are pretty solid and I feel Evans is better than Hearn at attacking. I think the biggest issue for canada today was focus. We made far too many errors and really didn't focus on a proper attack. When Canada uses it's forwards to give the backs space, they look dangerous. I think playing top10 opposition will be great for developing our attack.

This will probably be a fairly rambling post.

I'm with you LG. I don't know what to feel. I ran almost the entire Gamut of emotions though the game. Elation, despair, relief, disappointment, anger, you name it, I felt LOL. I was ready to commit murder on Kaplan. It was not the performance I expected but I'm glad we secured two points and probably secured 3rd. Our reward is automatic qualification for 2015, better competition in the November window and probably most important a bigger share of the IRB funding pie. That was job #1 for the tournament and that has been accomplished.

I hate to beat a dead horse but smith is, offensively, not capable at this level. He has no ability to break the line. Today he got his 50th cap and that is all he will get. I don't think you will see him in a Canadian jersey again. For us, the next 4 year cycle begins on Saturday against the All blacks. Trainor MUST!! start. Taylor Paris should get a run (he is probably the fasted player on the team.). Hamilton needs to start as does Hotson. I know we all love Ed but his days of national duty are over. I'm not a big Sean White fan but if the selectors see him as the "next one" then so be it, just teach him to say ruthless. Lets see what J-mac can bring at scrum half as well. At 12 there is a great big giant ? Maybe Trainor, maybe P_mac I don't know but we have to find some answers there. 13 is sewn up for years to come DTH is all class and one of the top outside centres in the world (he should have gotten MoM today). I only wish Glasgow would play him at that spot so he could get more time there.

James Pritchard has been a great servant of Canadian rugby and we have been fortunate to have him as an adopted son but it is time for Evans to take the reigns at fullback. Out on the wing there are some great young speed merchants being developed, not at this tournament, who will need to come into their own. This is where our 7's program will be agreat asset.

Kissing your sister doesn't feel that great today but there are some silver linings, hopefully it will cause us to work harder.

Call it a premonition, but when O'Toole knocked on in the opening minute (with an overlap on the blindside) I figured it was gonna be a tough one for Canada.

Just a shame Monro couldn't sort the boot out.
