RWC Semi Final: New Zealand - Australia (16-10-2011, 21:00)

weather is great, will suit both teams, might just come down to who takes there opportunitys better =) my gut feeling is a big win, i know it sounds arrogant but maybe we will finally come good and put another one away, lets relax eh.. yeah right!

I would be happy if we played similar to the way we did against Argentina... keep the scoreboard ticking, wear them out, and run away with it in the end.

Of course, Australia are a fitter team than Argentina so that last part, if it happens, won't happen because they're exhausted and we're not.

I'm getting extremely excited about this match. I don't want to make any predictions as my vbookie is simply a leap of faith. I so hope the All Blacks win. I'm confident we can beat France in the final if we make it there.

It would hurt a lot less to lose to France in the final than it would to lose to Australia in the semi-final.

haha true, and who knows what will happen, could even be a draw at full-time, and as for the weather, its auckland, could be we who knows =S exciting stuff

Probably the wrong thread for this (as it's the wrong game/teams) ... but here I go anyway!

... I disagree with everything you've said except for perhaps consulting the other officials, and then only to buy a little time, take the heat out of the situation, and for the ref to cover his own arse.

... The decision was the correct one, Warburton lifted the player above the horizontal which isn't allowed and is unsafe, and then dropped Clerc when the tackler has the responsibility to put the player down safely ... had he at least put him down safely, he might have got off with a yellow card ... but, the rules are pretty clear, so the ref didn't have a lot of options.

... it's not the ref's responsibility to make the game entertaining, or provide value for money, for money for the fans ... if the fans want their money back, they should invoice Warburton.

To tie this back to this thread, and tonight's game, if the exact same situation occurred tonight, I hope the ref would rule the exact same way, regardless of whether it was an All Black or Wallaby player ... the dangerous stuff needs to be stamped out, and the offending player only have themselves to blame.

... not biased against Wales either ... I like Warburton as a player and was backing Wales too
Good reply. I'll keep that as my last post on this subject because nothing will change what happened
This is a tournament being held every four years on a knock out system. What Blacktrick suggested already exist and it is called world rankings.
Im sick to death about the referee bashing after any controversial decision in any sports. I think we all have to accept the human part of such decisions, and sometimes it comes your way sometimes it doesn't. And no we do not need to change the world cup system just to accomodate the needs of any team.

If you guys don't win that cup it will hurt really bad. Good luck to your team, I think you have a huge advantage by being home and having all your fans cheering for you tonight.
You should breeze past us today ;)

Of course. To go out in the semi-finals, against our biggest rivals, and have the whole world pull out the "choker" label again... that would devastate me for years.

I'm not saying I wouldn't really care if we didn't win the final so long as we got past Australia. Though I did say to a friend shortly before the France vs. Wales semi-final kicked off, "You know, I wouldn't really care if Wales beat us in the final, because that would mean we got past the Wallabies."

I think the AB's will get a lot more heat from casual rugby fans for losing to the French in the final than they will losing tonight, especially with how the French have played thus far.

Will be gutting to lose but theres a bit more to life than rugby. Anyways I think the NZ rugby public are pretty aware we can lose this one. Compare it to previous world cups where we thought we were unbeatable. None of that these days :D

Tonight ABs 13+, need to bury these Aussies and not give them a hope late in the match.

I'm with you on that one as well. Maybe it's because I now consider myself to be a full adult (as opposed to 2007 and earlier; in 2007 I was 21 but hadn't "grown up" yet and for the others I was a teenager or younger), but for the past few years I've been a lot more "realistic" about sports. While I'm aware we're favored in this match for a reason, I'm also fully aware that the Wallabies could get it together and stun us in our own back yard.

As opposed to 2007, I didn't even take the French seriously at all, and was thinking about playing England for a place in the final before the match against France even started. It was similar for other tournaments, as with 1995 where I was expecting us to blow the Springboks out of the water in front of their own fans (of course, I was 9 years old and didn't really know much about rugby at the time).

4 more hours guys. The suspense is killing me. Hopefully the All Blacks by a great margin.

I'm actually picking the French to win the final I just think they'll do it to you know tick us all off.

 ... Is your membership to le bloc quebecois up for renewal or something Little Guy :D

Pretty confident the AB's will do the damage tonight, I think we're playing better rugby, team's got a good spirit and have a lot of big game experience in them.
I wouldn't be surprised if we lost, but win or lose, I think we should stay humble. You don't win World Cup's in the semi final.

If we were to lose, i'd rather lose tonight tbh. Just save another week of anxious waiting.
The Aussies are a better team I believe, and I rate them very highly.

Losing to France would hurt more to me, mainly because I believe we are a much better team than them. France aren't playing well, and they have a bit of a history of beating us in big games, so we need some redemption against them.

I still think the AB's should win quite well but with Cruden at 10 for carter their is an air of vulnterability about the team. Same because looking at the lineup if carter was in I think it would be close to the strongest All Black teams I've seen in a long time. Prob since the All Blacks had Mills & Sivivatu at their peaks - late 2009.

If Cruden can hold his own and the team collectivly put pressure on Cooper I can't see Aussies winning this one.

No Tana?!?.. haha. I'd say Cruden is going to have a great game because he is going to want to show everybody that he CAN play at this level and he will want to send a message to the coaches as well, that "Hey you guys should've picked me from the beginning''

I'm backing the All Blacks for this game, and I've put my vCash where my mouth is. And I hope they go on to win the Cup as well. They've been a great team this tourney, not their best, but I want them to win a WC already!

I hope if we do lose that people don't automatically call us chokers. If we lose to a better team than that is just the way it goes.

I agree. I think the problem in the past, well certainly in the last 3 World Cups, is that the All Blacks have certainly choked. They played poorly on all occasions and didn't deserve to win. I will be much happier losing to Aussie tonight if I know that the All Blacks have played a very good game and have (as you say) simply lost to a better side on the night. There's nothing dishonourable about playing excellent rugby and still being defeated.
