RWC Quarter Final: Springboks - Wallabies (09-10-2011, 18:00)

I also hope the weather clears up a bit, heard it's ******* down there.

why??? rainy weather is actually better for SA, as you don't run with the ball... hence my signature.... the rain will suite your kicking game... and cuz of the rain Aus will make a lot of handling mistakes, cuz they actually run with the ball (in hand :D)...

don't you bok fans just love me ;)

Well I suppose they do in a 'Pity the fool' kinda way.

One thing that always intrigues (sp) me, is that when coming up against a side with better handling/ running capabalities than ones own, it seems to me that the 'handling superior' side still looks more comfortable with the ball in the wet , and tends to make fewer knock-ons, than the 'non-handling superioir' side makes in games played in the sun. Whilst the latter side struggle with knock-ons and poor passes in the rain.

Don't tell me you can't feel for him.

I think some internet trolls are just the cutest things on the interweb. :D

You can just picture somone going for a world record of elipses in a year sitting behind a monitor thinkinh "How can I **** off people today? Oh, Yeah! Great idea! I'll just be myself"

Aah, what a little darling. Die arm mannetjie.

And in case there is a double meaning to your post, I said 'they', as opposed to 'we'

South Africa on form will have too much for them, their pack is so powerful and they are excellent defensively. Their greater experience will also be key.

Rain + cold weather and being wet and playing rugby seems like a surefire way to get really sick.

I don't think Aus or SA wants that, not with our injuries.

Might be a small concern but any risk at this stage is a big one.

I want to win South Africa.
SA is helping other nations to improve .... this is the spirit of rugby.
Other nations, no money, no help ....

The most recent weather forecasts suggest that the Wellington rain may have cleared up by Sunday (which is good for Australia).

A pretty predictable South African lineup - the only (slight) surprise to me is that they have gone way from the 5/2 reserve split they have been using, meaning Mtawarira misses out to Gio Aplon. I actually think the bench looks more balanced with 4/3 split - I just expected a 5/2 split.

I predict a South Africa win but it shall be close. I think SA will have seen Ireland's win over the wallabies and will know they can replicate it. I don't think the Australian style suits knock out rugby as much of that of SA and therefore I think SA will grind out a win.

Why does everyone see South Africa as the favourites? Australia has a massive squad and have a way of scaring our defense. I wish we had guys like Beale, Cooper and Genia...

Yes, our pack has a slight advantage, but if Genia and Cooper have a blast, we will lose this by a mile

Yes, but I think the point is that we don't know how many of the Aussies will be fit. + South Africa are really good at keeping the game tight, especially in knock-out stages.

Well, we miss Bakkies Botha and Francois Steyn. Especially the last one was the main reason we were incredibly powerful in our backline. We have conservative Jean de Villiers now at inside center which is a big step down in quality

Good point, but I still think South Africa will have the edge, although I might change my mind when I see the Wallabies team.

this looks so even that i would say it's gonna be a draw. i don't think our pack will beat them in the scrums or any other department that easily like everybody thinks though. i also don't think our defence is where it should be, we slipped a lot of tackles in the 2nd half against samoa and if that happens against guys like cooper, aac, o'connor, iaone and beale then they will put us away although we have a last bit of hope in lambie who rarely misses a tackle, if they break through. steyn should have the radar working like he has had the previous 4 games so that's a plus. if butch james comes on then it will be high tackle penalties all the way so "the best hooker in world rugby" must go off to make way for bismarck to even things out again.

damn it's gonna be close!

we don't need genia if we could just have hougaard there.

That is a good question! I think it will be a very close match (indeed I have Australia as slight favourites!), but the generally feeling (from the people I talk to) seems to be that South Africa will win this comfortably. I think this is down to the fact that Australia lost to Ireland, while South Africa went through their pool unbeaten - people seem to forget that if Wales had managed to knock-over a late penalty shot, or a late drop goal from straight in front, South Africa too would have entered the quarters after a loss (though they wouldn't even be playing Australia). Australia has won the last three teams between these teams (2 of which were in South Africa!), and 4 out of the last 5 - Australia knows how to beat South Africa even if they get dominated up front. For me this is the match of the weekend (just ahead of the Ireland v Wales match).

Unbeaten runs are there to be ended, you know that right? ;)

But seriously, I feel Australia has the upper hand. If we do win however, it will be amazing

Of course Australia have the ability to rip the SA team apart but I just think that SA will use tactics that allow them to compound the game and grind out the win.
