RWC Quarter Final: Springboks - Wallabies (09-10-2011, 18:00)

This is what I like about the bok squad and the versatility we have... No word yet on Hougaard, Habana or Pietersen... But we have guys to cover their spots... JDV in Steyn's place... Gio Aplon on the wing, and maybe Juan de Jongh or Ndungane on the other wing, with Butch James on the bench... Easy!!

Watched a program last night where John Mitchell, Heyneke meyer and Allistair Coetzee give their opinions on what the boks must do to beat the Aussies... I liked John Mitchell's answer: pick and drive the crap out of them especially on Cooper's inside Channel where Pocock usually defends, isolate Pocock, play for territory and kick your goals!

He went on to say the boks would also be more used to the Wellington conditions and that Steyn looked like the guy who mastered the ball to goal.

All 3 coaches said the Boks to win by at least 12...

Yeah, pick and go and keeping ti tight is exactly the ticket. Play it up the middle and if the ball is too slow to pick and go then take it up in pods and mauls and look for the penalty or break around the fringes. If Steyn were there at 12 I'd say look at playing the best balls but with him out we have zero playmakers from 10 up and FdP hasn't been directing either this year.

We will probably however be kicking the ball to Cooper and Beale to run back at us...

Wales, France, Australia, New Zealand
Wales Australia final
without dan carter all blacks will struggle to beat the wallabies.
But World Cup should be decided in South Africa- Australia game. Both teams can go all the way!

I think the All Blacks' chances are far greater against Australia than South Africa.

I would back the All Blacks over the Wallabies at Eden Park any day. The nightmare of Fort Eden just keeps growing for the Aussies, especially when they can't even beat the Irish there.
South Africa is another kettle of fish. They are one of only two teams to have beaten the All Blacks on New Zealand soil since 2003. They also have the momentum, regardless of what their game tallies suggest.

I don't think it's going to matter whether it is SA or Aus in the semi-final. All the tri nation teams regularly beat each other. So if we make it to the semi final I reckon it's basically a 50/50 chance.

I'll be rooting for the Wallabies in this clash though. Other than the All Blacks ofcourse ;) they play the most entertaining rugby.

Id hate to bet my house on this game but if I was forced to, Id bet on the 'Boks. They just look really good at the moment and I think they've come through a tougher pool IMO. They've played two tough games against Wales and Samoa and passed both tests, Wallies were only really tested once in their pool and looked average against Russia. So Id say the 'Boks based on current form and reputation.

However, the Wallies are a fantastic side. The loss to Ireland couldve made them stronger and even though that didnt seem to be the case against Russia, they might've been looking just to get the job done and try things like Radike on the wing against Russia, which worked well I might add. Its a shame these 2 meet early but hey, it couldve been avoided.

I back the Aussies but cant decide between a margin of greater or less than 7

Well, the Wallabies had the wobballies against Italy and Ireland. The Boks played the same brand of rugby throughout their campaign, so I say the BOKS

Fourie is slowly becomming his old self again. If he fires on all engines. I think we will stand a very good chance with his accurate box kicks. I would also not mind having Willem Alberts start and bringing on Pierre as a impact player.

South Africa without breaking a sweat... by 4+ converted tries.
We have too many injuries and no where near enough depth coverage... no way that digger is fit to play, not looking good.

Watch a few games of 2007 and then again of 2009 (the years when FdP was fit) and compare his pwerformances to the last couple of games. He still has a LOT of room for improvement and box kikcing is already taking a chance with your posession. Having it done inacurately and against the likes of Cooper and beale... eish. Could easily end in disaster.

I thought your injury concerns are clearing up and your line-up looks much better now than at some stages during the pool games?

Hi

Friend of mine currently in NZ watching the RWC has got extra 4 SA vs Australia tickets, think B category and 8 Wallis/Ierland tickets. Price NZ$ 260. Let me know if interested and I will get you connected. He is currently oin Wellington.

A somewhat related question as it's in support of the Springbokke; how do I get my signature (or any other pics I want to upload for that matter) larger?

Just send me a PM with what you want and I might be able to help

Aus will beat SA...

Aus will then beat NZ in the semi's...

Aus will then beat IRE in the final...

Sure buddy.

Anyway, I can't wait for the team announcement I heard something over the radio that both John Smit and BdP will be starting. It'll be a bloody disaster. So hope it's only a rumor, a really bad one.

I also hope the weather clears up a bit, heard it's ******* down there.

Oh, good, so we'll be going backwards against Aus again. LOL.

I've heard that it should clear up. I hope for either a totally dry day or absolutely soaking as the Wallabies won't be phazed by a little moisture.
