RWC Quarter Final: Springboks - Wallabies (09-10-2011, 18:00)

I don't know how the Aussies won this game but they did somehow lol :p. But what if Hougaard and B.DuPlessis would've played the entire match... They are awesome.

Thought the officiating was afwull though, this Lawrence was awfull. A scrum going forward destroying the opposition and he says both sides go up, reset....

Pokock was immense.

Oh yeh. Knock, knock, who's there, Cooper, Cooper who?

I think TNT may be Bryce Laurence himself. Sounds like he is trying to convince himself.

If Australia had lost, I'd be on here telling all the Australians saying that Bryce cost them the game the same thing. So spare me from your conspiracy theories thanks Lez...

Glad to see the back of PDV.

Im not......will mean with a competent coach with the right selections and strategies will make the boks a force they still should have been right now.
Deadset SA have underachieved in the last couple years under pdivvie. The best thing to happen in SA rugby with him gone.

At the end of the day we had the territory, the posession and the chances but couldn't pull it through. Aus only had 3 chances and took all 3 and can't be blamed for the ref's performance. Well done Aus and go WALES!!!

It's not that he was biased towards Australia, he was just shithouse all round. And given that SA made all the play, they were the ones suffering more from the dire breakdown officiating. I hate to see the better team lose, which is what clearly what happened in this game. It was very reminiscent of NZ v France '07.

IMO the Springboks were the better team in terms of attack, but lacked the composure to finalize. The Wallabies played courageously getting in contact without hesitation and that's what earned them the game. This match shows just how flexible Australia is and I'm pretty sure the semi against NZ will be a totally different game.

Yet not flexible enough to beat Ireland ;). This match was lost by SA IMO.

Thats a good way of looking at it, because the Boks did have their chances and they made that crucial mistake at the start that put them on the back foot early.

You mean the mistake where the ruck was formed and suddenly the ball magically got fingered out? Every game-changing decision that was made went against us. Sad really. After this game, I will forever regard Australia and Bryce Lawrence as cheats. Because that's how we lost. We were cheated.

Yeah I wouldnt be suprised if the magician was David Pocock for the ball popping out.

I am, but since we are missing Steyn and Smit is back in the line-up, I don't see us beating the Wallabies (who beat us in Durban in the Tri Nations when playing a full-strength XV)

Of course I hope we win, but realistically, I think we have a small chance

Interestingly, I think this post almost sums it up. If Frans had been there, I think he would have nailed those kicks from miles out and that could well have been the difference between winning and losing. There is certainly a different pressure that goes on a team when they can't leak penalties from 55m+ out.

This is a game I'll say the Ref lost for us rather than the better team winning on the day cos that is clearly not the case! So on that matter Bryce Lawrence can go **** himself!

I watched this not really fussed about who won, but I feel SA should feel hard done by. Congratulations must go out to all Aussie fans, because it was a heroic defensive effort from their team, with Pocock awesome in and around the tackle area.

I don't think SA should blame everything on Bryce Lowrence, because SA should still have won despite a few iffy decisions. The last Aus penalty was possibly a little harsh, but Rossouw was clearly seen grabbing Horwill's (I think) foot before he hit the ground. I think most people thought the penalty was for Matfield interfering, but the conversations between Lowrence and the though judge clearly stated no. 4 which was Rossouw, not Matfield. Stupid bit of play, that is often missed, but as it was picked up, a penalty was probably the correct decision.

I'm not personally convinced by the two forward pass decisions given against SA. The one in the lead up to Pieterson's disallowed try looked flat to me, it was just the momentum of de Villers that took it forward, and the fact that de Villers was knocked backwards in the tackle made it look even worse. His hands appeared to pass backwards, or at least sideways. Ref being very picky there imo. The forward pass given on the opposite side was certainly not forward, but that didn't directly result in anything for SA. The ref also called an incorrect forward pass against Aus aswell, when Cooper passed it into a SA player.

The other obvious thing missed by Lawrence, was the high tackle and choke hold on du Plessis towards the end. Certain penalty offence, that could have changed the outcome.

It's certainly not just Lawrence's fault, but a combination of the three referees on duty, Lawrence and the two touch judges. After all, most forward passes are picked up by the linesmen, not the ref's.

Unless Aus can pick their game up, I can't see them beating NZ, even if NZ weren't totally dominant against Argentina.

Pretty much sums it up!

I agree - Quade is too hit or miss to be in charge of a knockout game - he could click and score/set up a load of tries, but he could have a shocker and be utterly crap
Need to start Barnes at 12, or even 10, to steady the ship a bit

this is pretty funny... reminds me of exactly this time 4 years ago involving 2 teams, a close game and a ref named wayne barnes.
