RWC Quarter Final: All Blacks - Argentina (09-10-2011, 20:30)

Barnes. What a *******.

Clearly when McAlastair blocks a player he shoulnn't be binned.

And obviously it was an injustice against NZ because they didn't take the easy droppie in the end. 10 minutes of not scoring a try. The world was against them...

That's it? That's the extent of it in your mind?

To spend 10 minutes camped in the opposition 22 when you requite 3 points but repeatedly go for a try which was never going to come, there was nobody to blame except the all blacks. They bottled it. Or, as some prefer to say, choked.

Heh.

I must admit that the build up to the France game last week had me reliving 2007. I do wonder what it was that happened that day - whether it was just one young referee completely overwhelmed by the occasion, or whether there was something far more sinister to it. I doubt I will ever know and speculating is pointless.

I don't think we will have to suffer anything like that at home though so at least we should get a level playing field. Doesn't mean we are going to win though :)

Yes Wayne Barnes was put there for one reason and one reason only, to give the AB's no chance of reaching the semis. Who have you go this year? Might be another set-up?

Re:2007. We got some shocking decisions against us, having said that, Teh Mite correctly points out we should have taken a drop goal when we were in handy position near the end. Left it too late and had to resort to a 40m speculator from Mcalister.

Lack of compusure I guess, some say a choke job, and even taking into account all the stuff that went against us, I would agree.

I know that's all there is to it in your mind and that's fine. There is no reason for you to do anything except laugh at the kiwis and their much loved All Blacks. I understand.

Some of us on the other hand saw the match in question and regardless of whether or not we should have gone for more drop goals at the end there was more going on in that game than 10 minutes of not kicking at goal. A lot more.

I love [strike]laughing at a[/strike] good conspiracy theory. Please, enlighten the rest of us.

There were SAS snipers on the roof of the stadium ready to act if the unthinkable happend and New Zealand won.

A genuine question and please, could I get an honest answer: do you really think New Zealand was given anything close to a fair deal in that match?

If "yes" then I just don't believe you have watched the match with any degree of objectivity.

Please don't enlighten us Isurus, we've covered this ground a million times in the past 4 years. Lets just let it go. Let them say the ref was accurate, if they want to believe it, fine, it's history now anyway.

I have honestly never ever involved myself in an indepth discussion of this topic. I just stayed away - didn't even read anything about it. I wasn't living in NZ in 2007 or since so it's been easy. Like I said, it was last week's France match the brought this all back.

Crying foul then not backing it up?

Wow. I'm convinced!

Other people have backed it up for the past 4 years. Barnes was terrible and unfortunately for us, most of his terrible calls were at our expense. In saying all that, you are correct in saying it was still up to us to win it and we lacked the compsure to do so.. that is a pretty fair, impartial view from a NZer I would think.

If I were to start blaming David Rose for Northampton leaving Sixways with nothing on Friday, what would your response to that be?

I didn't see that one so can't comment I'm afraid. Like I/you said, we still had the chance to win the game, and weren't good enough to do so, I'm not arguing that with you or anyone. Barnes was terrible though, not the reason we lost, but still terrible. Which shouldn't be too hard to acknowledge.

people can say whatever they want about the ref but the fact stands that they were 3 pts behind for 10 mins and kept going for tries when all they needed was 1 field goal to draw level. They should of done a field goal first to get level and then went for the try.

So they chocked they could and should of won but chocked.

A "fair deal"? What do you mean by that? Universally speaking? No, life's not fair, i suppose. But are you suggesting that the ref was biased in anyway? I find that hard to believe. Maybe he didn't perform very well, yes he missed a forward pass, but guess what, he's human, they make this mistakes.
And to suggest there was anything "far more sinister" to this whole event just screams arrogance to me. There's not a mass conspiracy to stop NZ winning the world cup, you're a little simple-minded if you think so.

I agree, it was a bigtime chock.

Anyway moving along.. Argentina v NZ, 2011..
