Ireland by many points

USA looked poor during the Churchill Cup - I expect they'll up their game, but won't match Ireland

I also expect the population of Ireland to increase twofold as Americans the world over say "Ah, I wanted Ireland to win anyway...I'm Irish don't you know...to be sure to be sure...."

I hate these matches. There's no winning for Ireland. If we don't beat them by 20 points + that's a bad sign. If we do it's to be expected. I promise you no positives will come from this match.

American's root for the underdog. I'm an Ireland fan, but I'll be rooting for the Americans the whole time. and if they score a try to make it Ireland 48-5 USA then I'll be jumping to my feet and cheering. I think Ireland is going to win big, but the USA will put up a good fight, and considering Irelands injury problems, the USA will appear to be a bit better than they are.

I think the US will but up a good fight
shame they will lose on september 11th would be nice if they do well

The USA will play very hard, Todd Clever will inspire the boys to a respectable margin especially due to the occasion, but agreed with Olly the Eagles ahven't looked good at the Churchill Cup or against Canada, they did look slightly better vs. Japan though.

I agree with mr. D'Arcy. Whatever the outcome may be people will only point out what Ireland done wrong...

Ireland will not put full strength team out as they want to be ready for Australia and Italy. This will make the game much closer, Ireland will win by around 10-12 points

Looks like I might be going to this game with my American friend, so might end up supporting them... anybody else thinking of going?

Think the USA will play out of their skins given the occasion.

The ireland team could be something like:

1 Court
2 Best
3 Buckley
4 Cullen
5 O'Callaghan
6 Ryan
7 Jennings
8 Leamy
9 Murray
10 ROG
11 McFadden
12 Wallace
13 Earls
14 Bowe
15 Murphy

Mostly the second team and give games to some who need them.

USA don't have the best scrum, but can see them getting a few pushover tries if that's the front row :p

Surely you'd swap Earls and McFadden around there...

I would be slightly worried if we played this team. We have already gathered that Earls is not a centre, I would rather have BOD/Mcfadden at 13 and Wallace/Mcfadden at 12. I still think Ferris needs more game time and the backrow you have selected are not string enough ball cariers, so I would swap Ryan for Ferris. I would move Earls to the wing to try and help him regain form in his natural position. I would POC and Cullen as we are yet to see that partnership.

We actually saw this back in 2010. O'Callaghan was injured and Cullen played pretty well against Italy and France. He was immediately dropped once Kidneys son was half fit again.

Form and fitness is only an arguement used to drop non-Munster players.

As for the team above .................. oh dear.

As I recall once Cullen came on the scrum also improved. What I meant was I would like to see this partnership properly (as in start a game together) as I think it would put pressure on DOC to perform and it would allow us to see if the partnership adds anything different to the team.

Cullen started both those games with POC. Not dissagreeing with your point, just pointing out that we have actually seen them work well together.

DOC hasnt needed to perform for over 4-5 years now. Why would they start asking him to now? Thats a bit of a drastic change just before going into a world cup.

I must have been thinking about a different game

Yep DOC has been crap for along time now however he is capable of performing when under serious pressure and so I think we need more competition given game time in the second row.

Lads we might have to put out our best team and try get a bit of momentum going.
BOD will be at 13 as he wants to lead us into World Cup and badly needs gametime.

Wanted to start this yesterday but it wouldn't let me.

Whoever said Ireland would only win by 10 points c'mon do you really think our strength in depth is that bad. Anyway Ferris, BO'D and Bowe at least will play all world class players. O'Driscoll and Bowe are two of the best finishers in the world. Also some players like Buckley are poor against tier 1 teams but against teams like the U.S. he should smash some people.

Have a feeling Murphy will score atry off his signature trailing run.

Also Olly Court is rated as a very strong scrummager from loosehead (held his own against Mas) Best is the scrummaging hooker we have and while not knowing much about the U.S.'s props I suspect Buckley's strength and sheer weight should be enough. Also whoevers behind him will have the power to drive through.
