RWC: France - Tonga (01-10-2011, 18:00)

Amazing result for rugby. Couldn't believe that Tonga were leading at half time, but they showed just how they could finish the game off. Listening to Stuart Barnes talk about how unfit Tonga are as a squad, makes me chuckle now. Great game. Always been a Taniela Moa fan and I thought he was outstanding. Out of the halfbacks playing in New Zealand, Moa and Fotuali'i have looked the best.

**** I hate the French team. Way to lay the egg and make Canada have to qualify for the next WC. I hope they get massacred in the knock out round.

EDIT: I guess Canada will have to return the favour and beat NZ, hence making France finish third. :p

Absolutely 100% congratulations to Tonga, you thoroughly deserved to win, hopefully now the IRB can provide you with more funding and other Tier 2 nations, the times they are changing.

Well if they played like they just did they would've seen off Canada comfortably. Tonga are better than Canada, the final points table reflects that.

Well if, well they didn't and Canada beat them 25-20.

babou49 are you French or Tongan? I never said Tonga should tank the game so Canada should finish third LOL!!! But the French were utterly embarrasing tonight.

NO Canadian fans begrudge Tonga for their fantastic efforts tonight but I don't think people should get upset at us for questioning the French effort, I mean seriously that last five minutes was the dumbest thing I have ever seen on a rugby pitch.

Just got up and seen the score!

What the hell!

Massive congratulations to Tonga :D

NZ should let Canada win because they'll reach the Quarters if they do!

Tonga didn't deserve to win by 5, they deserved to win by 20. They completely outplayed France in almost every facet of the game. Yes, the French didn't play well, but you can only play as well as your opponent lets you play, and Tonga just never let up. They bruised, battered and bashed France into submission, and the French folded under the onslaught.

This is has to be the greatest upset in the history of the World Cup, and the greatest day in Tonga Rugby history.... there will be a few bevvies consumed in Wellington tonight.

The French just looked like they wanted to be somewhere else.... anywhere else... and Marc Leivremont is a dead man walking..

The losing bonus point France got eliminates us from the QF's

I would say both Ireland and Wales would dispute this. Possibly a boulevard to the semis though.

France still go through right? This is the France that likes to have incredibly sh*te games and incredibly good ones?

I did not enjoy this result as an Englishman. I absolutely loved it a a neutral, f**king massive result and I really hope it can be a stepping stone for Tonga. But watching France get their merde game out the way was not what I wanted to see for England.

I don't know if it would be considered the biggest upset in rugby world cup history because the game did not really mean that much in the context of the tournament.

Massive game played by Ikale Tahi, they just physically outplayed the French from the 1st min to the 81st. I don't think anyone would have picked this one but there'll be some huge celebrations throughout the Tongan islands and everywhere around New Zealand. Taniela Moa played awesome and Viliami Ma'afu were taking it to the French all game long. One of the biggest upsets in Rugby World Cup history.

Any one playing France have got to like there chances now, by all accounts they have real problems in there camp. The coach is going at the end of the comp so he will not be too fussed with the result.

There goes all my vcash :(, Well done Tonga I can't wait to watch my recording of the match.

Didn't really see the need to rub it in, I saw it, but I agree.

Marc Leivremont will be blamed but it is not his fault, only the players can play that badly.

Tonmga knocked on far too many times against canada roatating 11 players and playing players out of position...Tonga didnt really hit full gear. was an improvment against Japan. They still didnt play well tonight they let alot of opportunities go begging against the french they should of scored a few more tries, but like the game against Canada and Japan they couldnt finish of promising opportunities

Well, I certainly didn't expect that one. Well done, Tonga, that is indeed a big scalp. I have to say Tonga played well against NZ as well and Canada also had a good tourney IMO so far. Along with Samoa it really seems as if the tier 2 nations are making a big move. Hope teh IRB can accommodate them better in the future.
