People blame just his tactics but his player management is utterly ****. Look at the England tests. When we played England in 2007 and 2008, we scored a total of 23 tries in 5 (average 4,6 tries per match) matches against England. This includes a match at Twickenham and 2 during the World Cup (I even included the try-less final to make the results more lenient towards HM).
This year we played them 3 times, all 3 at home. We scored a total of..... 7. That an average of 2,3 tries per match. Yes, I know... It's just statistics, but add to that the fact we are without form players like Lambie (yes, in the squad but that's it), Ludik (the best full-back in South Africa since the start of the season), Aplon (despite playing in the defensive Stormers side, he does break the line and scores tries) and I can go on and on. No, in stead we are looking at Morne Steyn, Zane Kirchner and an impotent captain in JdV.
This won't change anytime soon and HM is building towards 2015, but he has already wasted 1 year of his plan. It's time to give the youngsters and form-players a chance. For the sake of argument, what about this, once everyone is fit:
1. Cilliers
2. B. du Plessis (c)
3. Mujati
4. Etzebeth
5. Kruger
6. Brussow
7. Coetzee
8. Kankowski (Once he returns from Japan)
9. Reinach or van Zyl
10.Lambie or Goosen
11.Pietersen
12.Whitehead
13.R. Ebersohn or Jordaan
14.Aplon
15.Ludik or Taute
Imagine that! A back-line that actually gets the ball. Wow!!! I know, a lot of Sharks in the team but think about this... We made it all the way through to the Super Rugby final, are contesting for the top spot in the Currie Cup log and played the Currie Cup final twice in a row and 3 times in the last 4 years. Experience up front, young eager players at the back.
