Arnt the reviewers told to tone their thoughts down a little before release ? Didnt quite a few of the articles rate R2004 as a decent play ?

I will be very sceptical until either myself or someone I know I can trust as rugby game player gets his hands on this game.

Im finding it hard not to get excited but I am doing my damndest to expect this to be a piece of crap

Only the sites with some sort of ties/special deals with EA.

For instance I would never believe any preview/review from gameplanet.co.nz due to their close ties with EA.

They heavily promoted rugby 2004, but when the s..t hit the fan after release an official review of the game was strangely missing from them............obviously they couldn't say much good about the game so instead they chose not to say anything in case of offending them........they had no such problem with SJRL......

They also proudly announced that the new FIFA was now the benchmark of football games in a review - most other sites disagree - gamerankings.com clearly shows that.....

Funny, thats the mob, that is getting a sneak preview or early version around S12 kick-off

futhur to this, they are the ones saying the game is near completion

anything that will come from this mob is an echo from HB by the sound of things

Andrew Wilson must work for HB, but liase with gameplanet.

I smell a consortium of shitspitting!

This is a hands on playtest of a near completed rugby 2004 by the gamesplanet lads...........

Knowing what we know now about that game you see how they appear to be putting a pretty positive spin on a game that must have seemed to have been some sort of joke to them......even so they were forced to make some discouraging remarks.......

At the start of their "play test" its ironic that Andrew Wilson prepared them by saying "remember it ain't Madden", considering he was saying just the opposite for months prior.........

This seems a funny comment by the playtesters "we were there to see Andrew, not Rugby, and reported little of what we saw in the demo". WTF!!, wasn't that the news the eager customer wanted to know about at the launch??(rather then what Andrew was spinning??).......

And to finish they had this ******** to say "In terms of gameplay, M has covered things pretty well. In the short time that we played we were encouraged with what we saw. It does seem that it is a game that will reward extended play. The more we played the more we discovered about the nuances of the game. Certainly a lot more gametime will be needed to discover how creative a player can get in a game, but at the moment it certainly looks promising"

"Stay tuned for our full review of Rugby 2004 for both the PC and Playstation 2 later this month"

Still waiting..........

- Custom League play.

- Highly detailed and bone-crunching motion captured animation for tackles, scrums, lineouts, kicking, passing, form and injuries.

- In game cut scenes that add to the emotion of taking your team to victory.

- Realistic environment modeling including weather, fogging, and lighting of players and stadiums. Pitch effects such as muddy grounds guarantee that teams will never leave the pitch clean.

THANK GOD!!! Just PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! DON'T GET GORDON BRAY!!! If it's an Aussie, get someone with a bit of humour and variation in voice tone! Phil Kearns would be my top choice!

Might not be an Aussie, it won't be Bray - I just hope they get someone with common sense and doesn't sound like they are reading a script.

You mean reading a script for the first time in a darkened room.

bingo!

How about going for Jonathan Davies as the European commentator? Well respected figure in the game, passionate about the sport and knows it inside out. Comes out with some some lovely little quips during commentary on occassion. I might be English myself, but I accept that the Celtic commentators add more feeling to their commentary. I was a huge fan of Bill 'The voice of rugby' McLaren. Moreover, the Welsh accent is so evocative of a great rugby tradition.

OK, I know this is not going to happen in EA's offering - but he's still my first choice.

My previous post makes it sound like I though McLaren is Welsh. Duh. Poor paragraph construction. Please don't bother to remind me that he is a Scot. I feel stupid enough already. Still, think that Davies would make a top notch game commentry though!

Anyone but Inverdale, should do. Can't be Stuart Barnes or Miles harrison cause there with WCR...

Jonathan Davies has got to be the most annoying, snivelling little **** on tv. He is utterly pathetic. His whinging increases exponentially when Wales are losing. He'll wait until the replay to castigate a player for turning down an overlap, by which point it's patently obvious to anyone who has the ability to count. He is the Peter Reid of rugby, just because he was quite good at it as a player, doesn't mean he knows f*** all about it. Even if R2005 is the greatest game ever, i would seriously think about not buying it unless you could switch of his disgustingly nasal, glottal-stop-riddled voice.

If, like me, you hate the little *******, feel free to email him at [email protected]

*ends rant*

I'd quite like the aussie commentators, so the game can have the odd bit of insight, but is more heavy on blokes just shouting things, and the occasional sound of a beer can opening. (which i'm sure i've heard on the super12).

I'm quite partial to Murray Mexted too, just for his "Montgomery, now can he drop-kick? No, he's useless!" comment.

OK. I get your drift. You don't like the guy then. I'm willing to accept that his voice can be a little nasal. On balance,
perhaps he might not be the best choice for a purely audio medium, but can you suggest a better European who might actually inject a little passion and excitement into commenteary. Brian Moore makes me laugh but I'm not sure he'd go down too well.

lol, you can't count on any of the Irish guys anyways. Perhaps Jim Neilly(boxing and rugby commentator from NI), but he's a bit old school.

Definitely should have Sonya mcLauchlan doing the sideline reports, god she's so clueless about rugby.

I think brian moore might be a decent option, to be honest. he does say things like "He needs a shoe-ing", or "A gay little slap" which would add to the game. My point is that commentators either need to be articulate and precise, with encyclopeadic knowledge like mclaren, or they talk like actual rugby fans, like moore commenting he never relly liked mark regan, and then not following it up with anything, or the aussies guys waxing lyrical about which centre had grown the best beard.....

if they get an aussie they need Fordham as the supporting commentator

he gets passionate and even loses his voice halfway thru getting emotional of a certain play/try or even tackle in a game

nothing would beat him on the replays going thru the try phase by phase and the last minute "OVAAAAAAAAAAA", as u cross the line for a 5 pointer

but keep gordon bray out
poidas would be good
kearns and eales for experienced comments
