RBS 6 Nations - Scotland Vs England (04/02/2012 - 17:00)

17 caps. Some of which he has been absolutely awesome in. Some a bit meh. Struggling to think of many stinkers apart from the games he started at the WC (not subbed on, where he was good, but started). He has proven his worth to England.

I wouldn't be upset if Dickson started as he's in form and does a vital thing well but I'd personally lump with Youngs and take the gamble. Either way, the biggest gamble - Simpson - is out of the squad. In general, I believe people are overdoing the criticism of Youngs, and forgetting about the good things he's done. If we're going to build a serious international team, then that means showing backing to big talents and consistency of selection, as well as taking form into account.

That said, I do like the idea of Dickson starting and Youngs coming on against a tired pack. I might go for that after all.

Dickson and Youngs is like Dawson and Bracken mk. 2.

Bias aside, I think it's about time we had a passing pack general back in the team rather then 2 copy-paste snipers (i.e. Care vs Youngs)

I hope Dickson starts. I don't think Youngs has the mentality he reminds me a bit of Ashton, he was top quality at the start of his international career but when teams started to put pressure on him he stopped performing, besides Dickson has been playing class for about 6 months now and deserves a start.

I don't think Youngs vs Ashton is a fair comparison, as Ashton's whole game didn't go to crap, it's just that teams learnt how to shut him out of a game and he had no real plan B to go to.
Youngs, however, has lost his passing game, running game and his kicking game has gotten even worse.

That's true but the similarities are also there. Ashton also managed to pull himself out of his bad form and was playing well for the start of this season whereas I can't see Youngs starting to perform anytime soon.

I hope Dickson starts. I don't think Youngs has the mentality he reminds me a bit of Ashton, he was top quality at the start of his international career but when played when not really fit they were unable to play anywhere near to the top of their ability, besides Dickson has been playing class for about 6 months now and deserves a start.

Edited to reflect what I believe is the real commonality between the two.

edit: On second thoughts, I'm going to stop pushing for Youngs, as I believe the pack might be in a bit of trouble, and then Youngs will look **** and I'll look wrong and that'll never do.

Only problem is I'm pro Dickson and he won't enjoy it either. Hrm... that's genuinely close to the strongest pack anyway as well. Ah crap.

I never know who is the number 1 ranked Scotland halfback: is Cuister likely to be starting in the next game, or is it expected that Cuister, Blair, Lawson, and Laidlaw will rotate as the starting halfback? I would have liked to have seen Joe Ansbro in the starting 15, as he seems to add some good pace to the backline, but I hear he's been ruled out with injury.

Cusiter would be the fans choice, otherwise they'd like a Blair-Leidlaw partnership with Leidlaw at FH.

I too wanted Ansbro in there but we always get jimmied with injuries the week before :( Also disappointed to see Dan Parks in there and no apparent room at the inn for Stuart Hogg.

The world record for most 3-pointers scored in a match at international level stands at 10. I fancy Parks to break that this weekend.

Allan Jacobsen bad selection? he is one of the most underrated looseheads in my opinion, and there is certainly nobody better out of Scotland's players

Denton deserves his call up as well, Rennie on form is doing better than Barclay as well

Can't agree with the three psychic duck mentioned.

Barclay is lucky to get his spot on the bench, Beattie has barely played and not even starting for the A team, Vernon has barely played, Brown is injured.

All this whilst Rennie and Denton have been very good this season, and Jacobsen seems to be ageing like fine wine. (Although I must note I don't drink)

Bah! What am I doing? You think Dickinson is good!
