RBS 6 Nations - Scotland Vs England (04/02/2012 - 17:00)

Just read an interview with Park where he said he's keen to get the ball to Evans and Jones, which I can only presume is a bad attempt at a bluff. Either that or he means Evans and Jones are going to be chasing a lot of kicks :O/.

What is up with this new trend in england to play South African Born players more and more?? first the cricket and now the Rugby...

I counted 3 South African born players in the 22 for England...

Sad state of affairs for England... Those guys weren't good enough to play for SA, but are good enough to play for England.

Go you Scots!!

I am sure with the recent highs of SA rugby they are really gutted about that.

Botha is only a temporary fill-in until Lawes is fit.

Same for Barritt... We have a perfectly good Samoan for that shirt... Oh, hold on...

As opposed to the recent highs of English rugby?

That said it might point to a sad state of sport affairs in England as Heineken mentioned but, unfortunately, it also points to a very sad socio-political and economic state of affairs in SA. If I had a choice I'd prefer the former.

At the moment your caught between the devil and the deep blue when it comes to wanting to play for England or South Africa.

I am sure they have any number of reasons for wanting to play for England, most sportsmen do tend to know where the grass is greener for any number of reasons.

Really??

I would've understand that sentiment if it was the previous 4 years with PDV at the helm...

But now it's a whole new ball game... Heyneke Meyer is now the bok coach, everywhere you hear of only praise for this man. even from english circles, especially after his stint with Leicester Tigers.

I would say it's looking pretty rosy for SA. and at least our management has shown that they have learnt from their mistakes... RFU on the other hand, hasn't shown anything...

Yeah yeah, it remains a problem, I know... i was actually just joking about the SA born Rugby Players playing for England, and that it's starting to look like a trend in English sport.

as much as the Southern Kings are a big laugh factory for many people... I don't see that it may have an effect with the Springbok team and the 3 tests against the Poms... maybe they can have real traditional South African braai after the games, singing SA songs around the campfire, since most of the guys will know the words anyways...

They just shouldn't start talking about the Boer-war... want dan gaan iemand hard gebliksem word!

Bloody hell, can we not have one England-related-thread without it turning in to a "HAHA YU NEED OTHER COUNTRYS PLAYERS" thread.

Fact of the matter is: They're qualified to play for England (two because they have English parents, one through residency) and have chosen to do so.
Why don't we talk about Quade Cooper, Will Genia and David Pocock? Jamie Heaslip and Ronan O'Gara? Tendai Mtawarira and Brian Mujati? Isaia Toeava and Jerome Kaino?

Sheesh.

Has anybody seen a comparison of the pack weights anywhere. Bit concerned from an English point of view that we might be lightweight in the scrum...

You know, its not a proper international thread until the poaching trolling begins...

Anyway, we're only using Barritt and Botha as we're busy subsidising the Scots and Irish for players. I have no problem with it. My only problem with the situation is that our new national sports academy in the South (of Africa) is failing to produce a high enough quality of player for all our national sports. Absolutely useless of them.

Reasonable England team. tbh it would seem bad if this was our first choice, but we have plenty of options and a few injured players to come back!

It's not really a reasonable England team. Our props are out of form (hope that has changed). Haven't heard good things about Botha (though Parling has looked sharp since coming back). Playing with three 6s. (MJ couldn't have dreamed of a less balanced backrow.) An out of form 9. Not even sure if Barritt has played 13. A 12 who isn't famed for his distribution being required to release our talent in the back 3. No wing cover, yet filling the 22 shirt with a fullback who shouldn't be used unless Foden get's injured.

On the plus side, a good performance from Morgan with Lawes, Wood, Tuilagi and Flood coming back from injury and Dickson being capped and stepping up, with other players hopefully coming back to form could salvage this team in time for the third match.

It's the worst that I already feel apprehensive about Lancaster and he hasn't had a single game yet...

you seem to have forgotten a certain dan parks :D, oh and come june tim visser

Dan who?

The way it is going he will kick the 79th minute winner on a snow filled wind blown Murrayfield. With the crowd going wild.

A statue will be built in Stirling to replace the Mel Gibson one, sorry the William Wallace one. A night will be dedicated to his name and we will all recite famous Dan Parks quotes. Whilst supping a nice wee dram remembering how the evil ones were sent back across Coldstream with a bloody nose :D

Woah there. Johnson played Worsley at 7. And Hask. And a crippled Moody.

This is a big improvement. (edit: Well, improvement. Big improvement would be throwing in Morgan to carry the pill.)

Also Barritt has played 13 this season at least once, think a couple of times (reassuring I know). I think we've got better locks than Botha, but he will be utterly committed, and he's a busy lump who will run around battering people until subbed/dead/the whistle blows. Could work, if he's quick enough. And Farrell is a good passer.

Could be better, could be a lot better, could be worse though. My forced optimism hasn't worn off yet.

I haven't seen much of Sarries this year, but I was under the impression they play Barritt at 12 for defence, and 13 in attack. Switching the centres around in defence / attack used to be regularly used by clubs, especially to protect fragile 10s. The new England 10, 12 and 13 being exactly the same for England enables them to play the same way as they do for their club, which may not be very expansive, but they know how to win games, and that is what they'll need on Saturday.

What other national sports? Besides the rugby players and cricketers we have some good swimmers and golfers for you but that's about all we got, sorry. Netball? If you're looking for footballers though I'm afraid you'll have to look elsewhere.
