Premiership semi (giggle giggle)

Tigers deserved to win as we butchered changes in first half to gain a good advantage.
Till our yellow any result possible, but fair play to Tigs they controlled game from then on.
Right or wrong scores in the books.
They will need to be a lot better next week but best of luck anyhow no bad feelings.

Moroni hell of a player but doesn't offer much in attack, needs to be paired with Scott IMO.

Pollard will suit us next season.
Ashton will prob start next weekend.

Rumours Moroni might be coming to Newcastle next season...

He's a very solid player, prob one of the best solid players around.
But as a 13 he's not particularly quick or particularly strong.
Very smart player.

But it's evident that Tigers attack is easy to shut down without Kelly at 12 to be that point of difference especially with his distribution.

Still think sarries are over the cap from their previous 'extra' deals as well. They seem to have shed a few but surely a lot more to go.
They have paid the price previously think it needs letting go of, can't see them breaching it this soon, let's be honest Tigers also guilty but because they were **** no one cares, not sure how Bristol manage to stay under it given their names.

I don't think they are atm, they shed a lot of cash after the investigation, replacing some big names with bin juice or academy (Skelton --> Swinson, Wigglesworth/Spencer --> Davies, who was really out of favour at Ospreys etc.etc.)

Dunno about after the cap drop, though - is Koch the only big leaver they have? and I'm guessing he's marquee

But then I have conflicting feelings about that, though - a lot of their big names are home grown (or near enough - Vunipolas signing very early in their career, Daly hitting his real heights after signing),
Fun to rag on Sarries but why should they have to bin off George/Itoje/Isiekwe/Goode/Tompkins/whoever - shouldn't be punished for producing international class players

Exemptions are open to exploitation and potentials such as RFU meddling/deals (such as their multiple business partnerships and ventures with Harlequins) are something that really needs to be avoided. Imagine clubs not being compliant if a player didn't get a call up, pressures on coaches/selection, backroom deals, and many other things.

The lowered cap is anticompetitive and was really designed to maintain the old guard's position at the top at the expense of Europe (which they weren't doing well in anyway) and other clubs in the premiership with their ambitions. It needs increasing to the old level immediately before further damage is done, and increasing beyond that in the near future to be competitive with Europe/South Africa... especially as the talk of larger, global leagues are not going away. One way which I'd approve of is hugely increased academy credits and a creation of a "player loyalty/legends" category for those who may have come from a different route into the sport or even a rival academy but have become club stalwarts. Bigger emphasis on homegrown and players becoming "local" or part of the culture/integrated long term.

You could make their cap hit be the average of every year they are at the club. So big name signings will always count more towards the cap then players that have stayed at the club. Encourage clubs to develop their own academy talent/ search for diamonds in the rough.

I'm not saying they are over but feels like their old 'deals' haven't finished yet and by that I mean extra payments.

The reason being the amount of first team internationals they have. I can't see how they stay under the cap with that lot. Not saying they are breaching it but can't see how they stay under it. No other team has that many internationals.

I know Daly, Mako and Billy weren't academy players for sarries but I guess a lot of the others were.

I mean their team yesterday
1. Mako (top class prop)
2. George (top class hooker academy product)
3. Koch (top class prop)
4. Itoje (top class lock academy product marquee player)
5. Swinson (Was about to retire before signing for Sarries)
6. McFarland (Signed as a free agent from mlr)
7. Earl (Academy lad, 24 so still not in his prime contract)
8. Billy (Top class but was out of form)
9. Davies (was 3rd choice ospreys 9)
10. Farrell (Academy and marquee player)
11. Maitland ( 33 year old, let's be real prob not on much)
12. Thompkins (academy player)
13. Daly (B&I lion)
14. Malins (Academy lad still off prime)
15. Goode (Ideal club man academy guy)

It's honestly not that special as a starting XV

And their bench isn't full of international talent.

Apparently there are no citings from the Semis. Unbelievable when there is crystal clear footage of Farrell punching Marchant.

Good old sporting authorities trying hard not to interfere with a sporting spectacle even if it means ignoring the rules.

Banning Farrell would have caused us a problem for the Australia tour and if it means that he, Smith and Marchant (ironically) can build a decent on-field chemistry, I can kind of let it slide for the greater good … BUT, it's not a good message to send when the England captain can punch opponents and get off scott free.

He should be treated the same as anyone else in that situation, his status is irrelevant.

I'm not saying that he should get away with it because of his status though - quite the opposite. If anything his status should mean he is held to an even higher standard of behaviour.

As it is, I'm just about OK with it being missed if it means the England midfield has a chance to gel and get to the required standard.

Isn't part of the reason the cap was there is that nearly all clubs were spending beyond their means with no clear path to getting back to profitability, in many cases actually getting worse? This was also after the complete collapse of London Welsh not that long ago.

I'd be in favour of the cap rising but I think English clubs need to secure better revenue streams. We can't just raise the cap and let clubs get more and more into debt or we could see the collapse of the English club game when that all eventually catches up to the clubs. Relying on the good will of a wealthy benefactor to cover running the club at a deficit every year is not a good business plan.

Sarries v Quins is always a delight, there is an animosity between the two sides that you don't really get elsewhere in the league and it produces some quality encounters where each side dials up the pressure more than usual. The atmosphere in the ground was a proper delight and I even lost my voice for the first time this season. As another fan commented after the match, "I'm gassed" 😂

I thought Harlequins started far better, with greater determination to put points on the board, but I wonder whether this was counterproductive by the end as it clearly led to the Quins players fatiguing a lot quicker. This really showed when Quins repeatedly took an age to form for line-outs; the boys from south-west London tried this before earlier in the season, but the ref today clearly wasn't having it and flagged it on perhaps two/three occasions.

I'm amazed that Quins really struggled to gain any traction when Sarries were down 1 man for a prolonged period of time (down to 2-men at one point); I think Quins scored just 5 points in that period, when Sarries managed 7. Perhaps had Quins not emptied the tank in the first 20-mins, the result could have been different.

I also didn't understand the lack of composure from Quins when they had their man advantage; rushing to score rather than biding their time. Instead they knocked on, held up over the line, or lost a line-out. Smith is a great player, but other players need to do some work to let the magic come through.

As to try of the game; the Earl knocking aside the trash talking pair of Marler and Evans was great and underlined why he was awarded player of the year. I also liked the crazy pass from Farrell to Tompkins.

In the end Saracens ran away with it, but the contest against Leicester will be a completely different affair.

I didn't have fault with the yellow cards, but I am surprised that some of the off the ball action wasn't looked. I'm guessing the Farrell punch was overlooked for the hits he took (two punches to the head from my view in the stand).
