[November Tests 2017 EOYT] England vs. Australia (18/11/2017)

They need to introduce a new rule to Union.

No Try's in a match = big fines $$$$$$$

How do people dislike this? We gotta stop cheap teams and if a $100k fine doesn't do it, I don't know what would. England and RSA have a lot to answer for, for introducing this style of play.

I thought Australia would compete for long spells, but not in those conditions. Cheika doesn't have the personnel for adaptable tactics. He's got ball in hand, run and pass. Repeat ad nauseum. Fecking Kurindrani and his brick hands. Could have been an interesting match if he'd taken that pass from Kerevi's sensational run (or if the ball hadn't done it's bizarre walk along the touchline).

Interesting to hear a female commentator on a rugby match (BBC highlights) for the first time. Nothing really to say about it, which is probably a good thing.

As games go it was quite bizarre.
I have a feeling we may hear considerable griping from the Wallaby fraternity for some time after that outcome.
Definitely not their day to buy a lottery ticket.

Don't we hear that every time they lose?

While there was a bit of fortune in the bounce for the first try, both of the Aus tries were ruled out correctly. England took their chances. My concern for England is similar to last year during the 6N's. We aren't playing well across a full 80 minutes and often rely on a few moments of excellence. No I know you can't play at the same standard for 80 minutes, but we do seem to go up and down quite quickly within a match.

Wasn't paying attention particularly closely, but I watched all of the tries and non-tries intently.

Not sure how you could complain about any of them.
The Hooper no-try was clear cut, he made no effort to get back onside.
The Koroibete incident too... Moore clearly impeded a tackler significantly.

Wallabies played pretty crap generally, but bloody hell talk about not getting the rub of the green - those two no tries were 50-50s and one of England's was a clear no try. As for the yellow cards... been harping on about this for a while, but it's that sort of crap that has had me watching far more league over the past few years.

I'll bet the Aussie decline hasn't helped either

The game has been in terminal decline in Australia for over 10 years frankly and is a candidate for the worst run union in the world, so yeah that doesn't help. That said, if it were just on field performances I'd still be watching the Wallabies more than my League teams, where NSW in Origin have won only 1 series out of the last 12. Heck, at least in the union we had the joy of making a WC final recently.

Itoje coming on for underhill helped us, what a player. My previous concern of liking underhill and robshaw but not at 6 and 7. One went off it gave more balance to our back row, that back 5 works well.

Simmonds didnt do anything wrong and did a decent pass at the end but did he carry at all really?

As an Englishman that ball deffinatly did not go into touch...so close.

What a display by care at the end, i was thinking throughout the game youngs' box kicks were always a little bit too long almost every time.

I'm sorry man, but that's bullshit... they were clear as day.

Hooper's in particular could be used as a video example to show exactly what not to do if you want to be onside.

Well a very strange game, Australia the better team nearly all night, but a scoreboard that suggests they were thrashed. England were dire for most of the game, got one fluke of a try in the first half, against the run of play and just having their noses ahead for most of the game was enough.

Given the weather, the fact that they had two of the worlds best players missing from their team, had 2 fairly harsh YC's, just about every 50/50 decision by the refs go against them and still were in a postion to win with less than 10 minutes to go I think the Wobblies will rue what might have been and think they did pretty well despite the scoreline.

I dont think any of the refereeing decisions were outright wrong, just some were on the harsh end - Hooper's came with no general warning or other indication from the ref and all out of one passage of play. A lot of teams would be getting more YCs if that was the standard applied week in week out - but fact is nothing in that outcome is wrong or against the laws of the game. Beale's YC was also on the harsh end of the spectrum, it was a deliberate knock down, but most of the time when they happen around the middle of the field like that its only a penalty, inside the 22 is the usual area for YCs for this offence - but it has happened before and no doubt will some time again in the future.

The ball that probably scraped the touchline was probably the right call in that the Ref asked the question - from there it needed to be clear and obvious and I dont think a fair minded person would say it was that.

The decision with Moore & the obstruction was correct, its just the sort of **** that happens when you dominate a game on the field, but have everything go against you at the critical moments!

Kepu was enormous last night, Kerevi was better than I thought possible, Koribete showed why he is such a dangerous player and the forwards were great in the set pieces, lovely to see out scrum so good. Hodge & MacMahon had good games and Hooper was the usual workhorse.

Disappointing to lose a game that they should have won given their dominance, but they will know that sometimes lady luck does that to you, just got to get up and go again.

Congratulations to England, depite the lack of possession and a fairly passive game, they hung tight, made the most of a couple of little chances against the run of play and put the points on the board, they will be happy to hang on to the number 2 spot for now, albeit with a performance they know wont keep them there if not improved upon. Given the performance last week and this week, England seem to have lost their way somewhat, no doubt EJ will be working hard to get them back on track.

Holeeee sheet, i know you blokes like to buy all our players but you really didn't have to buy the ref too hey. You'd already done the job eh. What a ******* disgrace. If that wasn't the biggest case of 16 v (what was it? 13?) in history i'd be shocked.

Koro clearly played him onside with his foot. Even if he somehow didn't, the video ref didn't even check to see if he did or not. What an absolute ******* joke.
