Nonu to move to the Chiefs next year

What the hell

What? It's not like he was skulling them down, I'm not even sure he had more than a glass. It was Monteiths brewery in Khandallah. He often comes there, but I've never seen him drunk.

And this is based on what? Have you met the guy?
The reasons given by many sources is putulance off the field and ill discipline on the field. This has been the opinion of one source, but many players said they haven't seen anything like that. As for Hore's dismissal, it's a tad ironic I had a beer with him on the Friday before the Hurricanes match with the Lions but I don't think he's a heavy drinker. From what I have heard from James Te Puni he was not let go because of any drinking problems.

Yes I have met the guy. I've played against him a few times and have been around him in social situations; he is an arrogant idiot who thinks the world of himself. I'm sure his mates in the team would never say he was a bad influence or whatever but the authority figures obviously are sick of his attitude. I've spoken to an ex (non all black) teammate of his who said he has a horrible attitude, and from what I've seen of him I have no reason to think otherwise.

Also on the Andrew Hore thing, didn't he celebrate his 100 games by having 100 beers over the weekend?

Haha, I don't know about the 100 beers over the weekend (though it is possible) but because I have quite a few mates who work at a pub he frequents, I've never seen him drunk. 100 beers is impressive, even on a long weekend, but I can't see it being the norm. Other than seeing Nonu once (at Monteiths) a couple of months back, he seemed like an alright guy. Some of my mates who play for the Ories also say he's decent enough. That being said, if you've spent a lot of time with him, I guess you'd have a better picture. Still seems like a pretty drastic step not signing him, surely a suspension or benching would be more appropreate.

I've known Ma'a for a while now and i'd have to disagree with you on his personality.
He's a pretty humble sought of guy as most Island boys are and likes having a laugh most of the time. The core players at Canes are pretty much a brotherhood ... i wouldn't include Hore in that group even though he is a senior player he's not Welly born and bred and is more the farmer type who relaxes by shooting protected wildlife.

Whats happening now is just the beginning.
Hammett has set a dangerous precedent, by sacking Nonu and Hore.... he has slapped all the senior players in the face.
The core players at the Cane's are a tight knit loyal group of mates and any hard feelings between them and Hammett have just escalated with whats happened.
This bitterness is only going to worsen as this season finishes and the boys are together again for the ITM cup and if this is how Hammett will try and manage this Wellington side we are in for a very rough ride next season.

I just worry that after the year we've had where Hammett obviously arrived with his ideas and plans and had the team disjointed from the start.... which culminated in a shite season and the sacking of Nonu and Hore - how many of our better players even want to play under Hammett It's sad for them because these are born and bred Welly boys who represent everything good about Welly and of those who stay with Welly, how are they going to do next year under the Hamett regime where it could be much of the same all over again.

A lot of the blame lies with Steve Tew and the board who decided to bypass our ITM coach Jamie Joseph who had already establshed a rapport with these players and bring in a a coach who lacks experience on so many levels...

It's only gonna get worse i reckon.....

Would have rather seen Dave Rennie apply for Hurricanes coach. Never been convinced by Jamie Joseph, despite the good season he is having. He never won an NPC with Wellington in the three years he was involved with the franchise.

Common theme seems to be that Wellington teams can't win anything...

I do wonder why Rennie didn't apply for the Hurricanes job, but applied for the Chiefs...

My view on Nonu will obviously differ from others and that's fine maybe he just rubs me the wrong way, just never struck me as a team guy either way. Great player regardless of his personality though and that will be pretty hard to shoes fill for the hurricanes.

I can see how he wants to get rid of the 'bro culture' that the hurricanes have though as it is clearly not working for them.

Are there any rumours who in the ITM might pick Nonu or Hore up if they are sacked?

Nonu will still be Wellington, not sure about Hore.

It doesn't really matter if it's their last seasons, as they won't play any ITM Cup matches this year anyway, because of the World Cuo.
