Nonu to move to the Chiefs next year

Nah serious, would be a good signing for the Chiefs but they should focus on own talent as well. E.G. Sam Cane ( altho wouldn't find it a bad thing if Weepu and/ or Gear would come over as well)

Ugh. Well looking on the bright side a Chiefs midfield of Nonu and Kahui would be pretty good to watch. Who's going next I wonder, maybe Weepu because Hammett didn't like his beard? Jane because of the pink boots? Just trying to come up with reasons you'd want to drop such good players...

yes but the Nonu Smith pairing has been too good to ever break up.. They have played so many matches as a pairing that they have become one of the greatest midfield pairings ever

Smith to Chiefs then...? ;)

Yeah that's true, I hope he still plays for Wellington in the ITM cup at least, even if he doesn't start that often for them because of the AB's.

I get the feeling that the other Hurricane the Chiefs are chasing might be Gear, he'd be a great replacement for Sivivatu... I don't think Conrad Smith has been on the 'list' of unwanted Hurricanes, so he'll probably stay.

this whole Hore & Nonu thing is interesting and I'm sure Nonu will be great for the Chiefs. Though I really want to see a young kid like Willison get a real chance I'm mostly happy Sweeney wont be around next year to be a fill in 12 again.

Will also be interesting to see how Conrad Smith goes. Conrad is a good player but he has spent almost his entire first class carrier in combination with Either Nonu or Tana Umaga. Compare him to Kahui who has had a revolving door inside him at 12 with players constantly changing and with the exception of Tana non of them have been great.

Hope the highlanders get Hore.

I am f*cked off. Who do we have to replace Nonu!? Hore can be replaced by Dane Coles, but who the hell will take Nonu's place? There is no quality centres in the Hurricanes short of Smith and Nonu. We've got rid of Treeby, Jayden Hayward is average at best, Charlie Ngatai almost always looks out of depth. Leiua is pretty good at centre, but can't see him playing well at second five. The mind boggles. This is like the John Mitchell treatment of top players in 2003. How is the NZRU supposed to be giving the image of trying to keep top players, when their own franchises don't want them. I am just so annoyed. I'll tell you this if Gear is given the boot, I will go mental.

I reasonable confident that Charlie Ngatai is the man for the Hurricanes 12 jersey next year. He has all the tools to be a very good midfield back, I just think he needs some more experience at Super Rugby level. The Canes seemed reluctant to use him this season, but in the one start he got this season (the 28-26 win over the Reds) he played very well... it was unfortunate he broke his ankle mid-way through the second half. Hayward is another option; he's been solid this season (certainly better than I expected he would be). A couple more that may come into contention (but will possibly be a year or so away) are Hawkes Bays Richard Buckman and Star Timu. Buckman was on the bench last week (and is again this week), and though he was used mainly on the wing for the Magpies' last year he is much better in the midfield. Timu was in the under 20's last year, forming a strong partnership with Charlie Ngatai. So though there is no ready made replacement for Nonu, there is certainly plenty of midfield talent coming through in the Canes region.

Coles is a showboater that can't do the core tasks - I'd be more worried about replacing Hore, to be honest!

I thought I heard that Gear was looking at the Highlanders, but that might be what he wants, not what Mark Hammett wants ... also thought I heard that Jane and Weepu are both wanted to be retained by the Canes ... should all be treated as speculation, as I only heard it in passing on NZ's Radio sport (could have mis-heard it)

Cant see a point in crapping on your senior players like this... The canes are yet to resign Weepu, Gear and Janes... What incentive are they giving these guys to resign? Seeing how their MATES were treated might make them rethink their place in the franchise.. It would if it were me!

Hammett has never rebuilt a side before so this is an experiment isnt it? Why hasnt this guy done time as head coach of a province? Fast tracked to super rugby only to be a pawn maybe?

Well, I have lived all my life in Wellington so I will continue to support the Hurricanes. The team could be full of serial murderers and I would till turn up and watch them.

I feel sorry for Nonu. He is a Wellington boy through and through and i's sad that he has been forced out. I wouldn't have done it if I was Hammett because Nonu is simply too destructive to let him go elsewhere. However, I can see what he is trying to do. There is clearly a big attitude problem in the Hurricanes which as stopped players form reaching their full potential. Nonu is clearly part of that problem due to his poor discipline and poor option taking. In some way his destructive play which can be so exciting and then his bad errors is a good way of summing up everything about the Hurricanes. The Hore one I don't get though. Why name someone your captain, then not pick him and then refuse to re-sign him?

I'm still willing to give Hammett the benefit of the doubt but if he is going to do all this then it better pay off in the future and he has to win the super rugby ***le within five years and start to have some success in the next two.

Yep, you should support your team through the good times and the bad in my opinion - he's certainly making hard, unpopular decisions, that hopefully will pay off in the future

... the previous coach got 8 years with not much to show for it, the big name players haven't delivered a ***le as yet

... heard in an interview with rugby commentator Graeme Moody on NZ radio sport, that the canes could lose up to 10 players out of their current squad - again, this is speculation, but still ...

I can see what Hammet is trying to do too. And I just think he is out of his mind.

Nonu is one of the best in that position arround the world. Canes are not only firing a fantastic player, they are also reinforcing the Chiefs. So, double mistake.

Nonu lacks discipline? Maybe, but whoever takes his place next year just lacks his talent.

I think Nonu has been a waste of space this year, that said I didn't see the Reds - Hurricanes game so I don't know what he did during that, I hear we lost though >.>
