Next Generation Gaming

It'll still sell - estimates are around 1.3m units, especially when GTA 6 comes out but a bit down compared to PS4 Pro.

What this does tell us is that PS6 is unlikely to come with a disc drive either and probably around this price point, which is pushing it into PC territory.

Yeah, imagine they'll bundle it with GTA6 it'll sell crazy numbers - I got a PS4 slim because it was bundled with RDR2

Not a fan of no disc drive - even though the vast vast majority of games I play are digital, I still like the option of getting 2nd hand games (which I do for things like the COD Modern Warfare remakes where I know I've no interest in the online so buy on eBay, play the single player, then resell for the same I paid for it)

They better start putting some really beefy hard drives in these things if there's gonna be no discs at all

Reality is nothing runs off the disc they install the game from it then just use the disc as DRM protection. Thats my experience with the PS5

I'd probably get a Pro selling my standard is it wasn't for the disc drive issue. I have games on disc.

They are also only making 12.3k of the pro models. So scalpers going to have a field day.

Got to wait until Mid Jan for this to come out on PS5. Anyone got this on PC/XBX?

Nintendo Switch 2 announced. Must be at least 1080p in handheld mode and upscaled 4K in docked but nothing announced yet on this AFAICT.

Well I thought I would add what I am doing in here. I am playing ib cricket on the meta quest 3 more than anything else at the moment

Last time I played that, I danced down the wicket to the spinner straight into the edge of the living room door. Smashed the headset into my nose and smacked my knuckles on the door handle.

I've been debating whether to upgrade from the quest 2 to the 3.

Feels like they've missed the mark on this one pricing wise, both for the console and for the games. It's a different world to the first Switch, with quite a bit of handheld competition which can access games at more reasonable prices. Especially early on in its lifecycle where it is more dependent on leveraging the game library of the first Switch, I can see this selling poorly.

Even the device showcase game has a pricetag, which has usually been given away for free on more recent competitor releases.

I feel the switch got away with it because it was new, different and not directly competing against the PS5/Series on price. Not only are other companies making handhelds now, but they're close to the PS5/Series on price with all the same issues they had at launch - the games are not ready.

The steamdeck looks more appealing personally.

75 quid for a controller is taking the absolute **** (also 59 quid for a 23 year old controller Mr Gamecube)

Remember the PS5 has the Portal too which okay requires wifi to stream games so does have some limitations. But I used mine to stream games from my hotel room in Canada whilst my PS5 Pro was in the UK with zero issues. It's an impressive bit of kit.

Was actually looking those up the other day and was amazed that they're just shy of £200 - I expected them to be much more

Mario kart for £75 is a joke, as is the price of the switch 2 - the novelty of being handheld is gone now, paying that much for last gen graphics/performance isn't gonna cut it (for me, anyway)

They'll always make bank because of how much beloved franchises they have locked down, but they'll push it too far eventually

I mean... if it does bomb, this wouldn't be the first time that their second iteration of a successful device has failed...

I'd never bet against Nintendo. They cock up with eg the Virtua Boy and then make a fortune from the Game Boy/Pokemon/Wii/Switch. They ain't going anywhere
