Manu samoa rwc squad

I hope they put on there strongest squad this weekend and see how they go against Western Force development squad. They should beat them by 20 points at least.

I remember before the 2007 world cup. People were saying the same thing that Samoa were sending there strongest squad ever. At the end of the tournament it was the worse performance by a Manu Samoa side at any world cup. It's good to see that the core of players have been kept from the 2007 side as they have been there before and know the feeling of being part of that team. This should only make them more hungrier and determined to go further.

we didnt have a world class half like now - I rate Fotualii as in Top 5.

DJRon does have a point as he refers to the strength of the squad in 2007 as being as strong as 2011.

Henry Tuilagi was a beast and there was Sititi and a few other players that had huge experience playing for the Manu.

Unfortunately the biggest difference between 2007 and 2011 lies within the coaching staff. Michael Jones was NOT a full-time coach and therefore didn't have the time to put enough effort into forming combinations and gelling the team together. This was particularly evident when Samoa showed their lack of professionalism in their opening match against South Africa after a try by Dan Leo was disallowed; everything seemed to go downhill from there. You can't expect every call to go your way and I blame the coaching staff for their lack of discipline and composure.

The 2011 squad is led by a proven coach in Dicky Tafua who, along with the assistance of Hawke's bay coaches, have been able to add some much needed structure to Samoa's gameplay while not losing the style of play that Samoa is best known for.

Cencus Johnston is not the best scrumagging prop we have now but he is the best with ball in hand, hence why he is the best bench option.

Mahonri Schwalger '11 is in prime.

Locking combinations have finally been set.

George Stowers IMO is better than Henry Tuilagi because he has an all-round game and is therefore less predictable than Tuilagi.

Kahn Fotuali'i is our best scrum-half ever.

SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO NOTE:

Apparently Tafua sent in this list to meet IRB deadlines for naming the squad.

The OFFICIAL squad will be named after the second Western Force match and means that whoever is crossed off from the list will not be able to come in as injury cover later in the tournament.

So, in fact the last trial for Manu Samoa is this Saturday. Typically Samoan time :lol:

Yes I remember Alfie To'oala replacing him who was in good form and a notable omission from the prelim 2007 squad. Yes the first 30 mins of the game vs South Africa was very physical and we were right in it. But the rest of the game was a different story as we were thumped 59 - 7 after the disallowed try (it was Iosefa Tekori doing his sneaking around the ruck with the ball trick which sometimes he gets away with and others times he gets penalised). I meant Kane and Iosefa were fresh on the international scene then, but have since gained alot of experience at high level rugby (particularly Iosefa Tekori who has been a star since playing in France) and are both now in their prime.
I hear you both DJRonStar and bonifidehamo and I agree to disagree. You have your opinion and I have mine which is I believe this Manu Samoa squad is light years ahead of the one in 2007 in terms of strength and preperation. I think we can all agree though that the 2011 Squad is def the best prepared we've had leading up to the RWC.
In regards to the squad supposed to being named on the weekend by the Coaching staff to the public, they have already submitted their squad to the IRB earlier this week. They mustve forgot to tell them not to leak it out to the public as it was through their official IRB RWC website that the squad was released. I'd say that it is accurate and that it is the actual 30 man final squad.

I saw Iosefo on Fox play in France this year at #6 and he was awesome

Yeah its something we have lacked. Also we have previously pulled in replacements who werent part of an enlarged training squad like this. This is the most ideal prep we've had as far as that goes although a few more tests would have been beneficial.

my undisclose source was telling me, manu samoa will take 35 players to nz wc, 5 players as emergency backup - faamauina, Alafoti, otto, fili and lemalu

I thought rules were you were only allowed to take 30 players in the squad. If there are 5 extra players then they will probably be traveling separately not as part of the team. Players will be called in only if there are injuries.

Yes Mapusua has been named team captain. Does that mean Schwalger's place as starting hooker is not cemented or has he done something he shouldn't have otherwise why would he be displaced as captain 2 weeks out from the world cup....

Is this correct?

I thought Schwalger was the captain not Mapusua, odd time to change the captaincy if true

Schwalger IS the captain and Maps as vice capt not sure where did the european news get their info from anyways, this came out today @ SRU news - News: A team widely reported on the internet as the official Manu Samoa RWC squad is NOT so. Samoa Rugby Union's Lefau Harry Schuster said that that team was given to IRB as they required a squad list on 22 August. The official team will be announced by the Prime Minister after the game with Western Force on Saturday.

wtf is going on??? lots of confusion

Each country was allowed a squad of 30 players for the tournament. These squads were to be submitted to the International Rugby Board by a deadline of 22 August 2011. Once the squad was submitted a player could be replaced if injured, but would not be allowed to return to the squad. There is also a stand-down period of 72 hours before the new player is allowed to take the field. Hence, a replacement player called into a squad on the eve of a game will not be permitted to play in that game.

I don't think you are able to change the squad now unless it's due to injury or unforeseen circumstances.

Mahonri Schwalger has been named as captain.

The Samoa Rugby Union will be holding a press conference today in Apia to explain to the public and supporters of Manu Samoa Wrorldwide the reasons behind the release of the Manu Samoa RWC 2011 Squad. The squad was supposed to be announced this saturday(27th, Aug) in Apia after the second game against super 15 side, the Western Force.
The squad was released on the official RWC 2011 website and has since been publicised by the media worldwide both online and in print. Samoa Rugby Union(SRU) President, Lefau Harry Schuster has indicated the squad released by the IRB or Rugby World Cup 2011 website is not the Official Manu Samoa RWC squad.
According to a source in Samoa "the reason they said ga kaofi ai, se'i faamagaia ai le final dinner a le au afta da Force game dis Sat, ma fundraise akili ai."
The public and media are both furious with the early release especially with local 7′s stars, Alafoti Faosiliva and Fautua Otto who performed exceptinally last weekend were not included in the team. This begs the question if the squad was already selected before the Force encounter. According to the IRB Rugby World Cup rules, all teams/squads were supposed to be submitted by the 22nd of August, 2011.
The SRU press conference today will further explain their reasons behind the release and also annouce the President's XV to play the 2nd game against the Force this saturday.

Need administrative staff that have relevant degrees.

If they think Samoa is above other nations they need a reality check. Mess-ups like this so close to the RWC are unnecessary and embarassing.
