This is a great squad, I am curious as to what is Ken Pisi's status? The boys back home in the hood have told me that he is the best out of all the brothers (maybe he wants to try and crack NZ?). Personally I think this is a better squad! Kahn Fotuali'i's ability to control a game from half back is amazing, he has been the biggest part of our transformation (him and Paul were the only blokes missing from the game that we lost to Japan). Tusi Pisi has a solid kicking game and likes to take on the line as well, then there's Paul Williams solid defender, runner and a great tactical kicker who can also kick goals (also Tasesa Leavea to a lesser extent, might have to catch up on some Counties games to see how he has been playing). These guys have given us strength in the most key positions in rugby that we haven't had in the past (bar Stephen Bachop) now all we need is a ball hawk. We have always been known for our physicality, but with these guys we also have blokes with the tactical mindset to get us out of pressure situations.

Final Score: Samoa 37 - W.F. 10

If the tries (6?) were all converted the score would be close to 50.

Official squad has been released. And it is the same Squad that was released earlier in the week by the press (SUPRISE suprise <_< ). The 7 traveling reserves are Simon Lemalu, Jonathon Faamatuainu, Alafoti Faosiliva, Ezra Taylor, Lualua Vailoloa, Faatonu Fili, Fautua Otto

my undisclose source was telling me, manu samoa will take 35 players to nz wc, 5 players as emergency backup - faamauina, Alafoti, otto, fili and lemalu

add 2 more players on that list: Ezra Taylor, Lualua Vailoloa 7 all together and yes, they are traveling with the team

Who were the SRU kidding by announcing that the official squad will be named after today's game when the deadline was August 22nd and everyone already knew that the IRB wouldn't allow any further changes. What a joke!!

Yep, just a ploy so people were still willing to fork out the cash to go to the dinner for the announcement. As I said knowing us Samoans they probably forgot to tell the IRB to keep in on the low when they submitted the squad earlier in the week so they could make the announcement at the dinner. As long as the money is going to where it is supposed to be going, towards the team, then I guess I don't mind.

Lemalu must have a realtive on the selection panel, honestly I hope none of the selected props get injured. We are a nit light on for backs if Otto is in the mix.

Now I'm a bit confused, I can't remember where I had seen it but I'm sure rules stated that you were only allowed to take 30 squad members and no travelling reserves to the world cup. Is this another ploy from the SRU to ensure the faithfull fans that players who missed out were still part of the so called extended squad.

And seeing as the SRU are struggling for money, why would you take another 7 players at an estimated cost of around $100,000k including airfares, accomodation and extras during the world cup when you can replace an injured player easily if neccessary seeing as most of these players reside in New Zealand.

With all the money donated just makes you think back to the tsunami funds which a lot of the money was unaccounted for.

I think so too.

Players statement via http://www.manusamoarugbynews.com
To all Manu Samoa fans and supporters: If you want your money to go directly to the players, please donate your money directly to the players OR give your donation to either the Captain or Vice-Captain of the Manu Samoa team. If you want your money to go directly to the Samoan Rugby Union Board/Management, please make donations through the fundraising means that are already available.
Ridiculous greedy and stupid that we the supporting faithful who have given out of our own pockets (including myself) to support the team by sending money which is supposed to go directly to the team, only for the money to possibly end up elsewhere. To whoever is handling the fundraising money - PUT THE MONEY WHERE IT IS SUPPOSED TO GO towards the TEAM and not your OWN POCKETS !!!!!!

Its probably Tuilaepas doing... like DJRonStar said before: "With all the money donated just makes you think back to the tsunami funds which a lot of the money was unaccounted for." And who was responsible for holding the and spending the money?... our very own Tuilaepa.

Fotualii is better than the All Black 9's

By a long way. NZ's biggest mistake not to even consider him for selection.

wtf is going on??? lots of confusion

It is the Samoan Rugby Team.

And this is why we can't have nice things.

Geesh that's an incredible team for a Pacific Island country.
Going to the Samoa v SA game, hoping to see an upset there!

CHEEEHOOO , just saw the boys get off the plane (should've taken some pics) MASSIVE CROWD. Cars lined up - BUMPER 2 BUMPER - around Auckland Airport honking, the Samoan Flags waving proudly, lavalava's flowing - this is about as close to a Home World Cup and with 130,000 samoans in NZ...it's not too bad...

Saw the pictures on twitter and facebook - looked like an immense welcome :D

Someone mentioned (and posted a picture) that Manu Tuilagi was there welcoming the guys in :D

That won't be an upset. Samoa thrashed Australia, and this was their only game against a SANZAR team in 3 years...
