LV= Cup 14/15 General Thread

Sale's team to face Wasps:

Luke McLean, Phil MacKenzie, Andrew Forsyth, Sammy Tuitupou, Charlie Ingall, Joe Ford, Will Cliff, Alberto de Marchi, Marc Jones, Ross Harrison, Andrei Ostrikov, Josh Beaumont, Mark Easter, Dan Braid Captain, Viliami Fihaki

Replacements Shalva Mamukashvili, Eifion Lewis Roberts, James Flynn, Jonathan Mills, Andrew Hughes, Nathan Fowles, Nick Macleod, Sam James

Really strong side, considering it is mostly an 'A' side/returning from injury side. I would have given Jones the week off, though, or at least had him on the bench if Neild is injured. He basically plays the full 80 (or about 75) and puts his body through a hell of a lot on the pitch.
Be interesting to see how Harrison gets on in his first start at tighthead - apparently Rowntree is very supportive of his switch to 3.

Jake Farnworth another one of our converted Hookers looks promising, Good to see Pohe their but he must impress.

Bryant looks a very promising attacking plyer 18 years old and looks very very good at 10, Beckett was England U18 captain when they beat the SA schools boys in SA this year.

Some very promising young players there.

Gareth Evans is back!

Might not have the big name that a lot of the Gloucester pack members have, but he was one of two forwards (the other being Stooke) who stood out for Gloucester when the pack was being mullered last season. The stand-out player in a back row of Savage, Kalamafoni, Morgan and Kvesic. Going to be hard to come back after nearly 7 months out, but really looking forward to seeing him play again.

That backrow sure is one for the future - 6. Moriarty 7. Dan Thomas 8. Evans

What did we all think of yesterday then?

I'm worries for Quins today.

Glad sale got the 5pts but apparently we were really crap and didn't deserve it.
Hearing that Beaumont had an excellent game, though.

Bah Leighton Hodges is such a crap referee . However Maro Itoje is such a beast !!! They were talking about him literally being groomed for England greatness and you can almost see it . The physicality he has for someone who is only just old enough to not be a teenager

Itoje is and will be phenomenal.

Leighton Hodges continues to be the worst ref currently doing the rounds.

Sale taking the **** with there selection

Leicester Tigers (v Sale Sharks, Welford Road, Sunday 3.15pm)

15 Tommy Bell 14 Adam Thompstone 13 Matt Smith 12 Oli Bryant 11 Miles Benjamin 10 Freddie Burns 9 Sam Harrison (c) 1 Tom Bristow 2 Harry Thacker 3 Tiziano Pasquali 4 Joe Maksymiw 5 Sebastian De Chaves 6 Harry Wells 7 Charlie Beckett 8 Ed Milne

Replacements16 Jake Farnworth 17 Riccardo Brugnara 18 Dan Cole 19 Aniseko Sio 20 Stone Priestley-Nangle 21 David Mele 22 Jack Roberts 23 Charlie Thacker

Sale Sharks: 15 Mike Haley, 14 Tom Arscott, 13 Andy Forsyth, 12 Sam James, 11 Phil MacKenzie, 10 Nick McLeod, 9 Nathan Fowles; 1 Eifion Lewis Roberts, 2 Marc Jones, 3 Ross Harrison, 4 Andrei Ostrikov, 5 Michael Paterson, 6 Dan Braid (c), 7 David Seymour, 8 Josh Beaumont

Replacements: 16 Cameron Neild, 17 Darren Fearn, 18 James Flynn, 19 Magnus Lund, 20 Andy Hughes, 21 Chris Cusiter, 22 Joe Ford, 23 Charlie In gall

Pretty much Sale 1st choice pack V Leicester 5th choice pack.

Average age of pack Tigers (20) V Sales (27)

You should be happy that your pack's going to get such a fine educational chance.

Is Pohe injured?

If he isn't then they really don't rate him do they?

Trying to build up some form/continuity going back into the Premiership.
Harrison has only started at tight head once before, same with Beaumont at 8.
Be good to see how Haley, James and Fowles get on - all very highly rated.

Also Hughes off the bench. Learning the ins and outs of open side flanker play from Seymour, Braid, Lund and Hendre Fourie is not a bad way to spend your time in an academy.

Exeter team to face Bath:
15 Byron McGuigan 14 Jack Nowell 13 Henry Slade 12 Sam Hill 11 Matt Jess 10 Gareth Steenson 9 Will Chudley
1 Ben Moon 2 Jack Yeandle 3 Tomas Francis 4 Dean Mumm (capt) 5 Damian Welch 6 Dave Ewers 7 Don Armand 8 Thomas Waldrom

16 Luke Cowan-Dickie 17 Carl Rimmer 18 Moray Low 19 Ryan Caldwell 20 Ben White 21 Haydn Thomas 22 Ian Whitten 23 Adam Hughes

Very strong teams. Not too dissimilar to the strongest lineup. I'd say swap Armand with White, Moon with Rimmer and bring in Tom James at 15 and Dave Lewis at 9 then that would be the first XV.

Ospreys 9 Saracens 21
All points from the boot of Ben Spencer

So much f'cking kicking.

Edit:
It must be so disheartening, as an attacker, to make a halfbreak, get tackled, then as you're on your way to floor see both Dan Braid and Dave Seymour looming over you.
The amount of turnovers/penalties they've made this half has been great (as well as Seymour putting burns on his arse from a lineout).

Edit 2: Tigers replaced their full front row and are just dominating now.
I think Tigers should move Harry Thacker to the flank full time, he's excellent in open play/at the ruck but his lineout and scrummaging is poor.

Edit 3:
Absolutely smashed. Halfbacks poor. Scrum completely none existent after Tigers replacements. Handling terrible. Bullsh*t yellow card. Terrible tackling in the 2nd half - not even poor defence, we were there to make the tackles but just fell off them.

Benjamin has gained a lot of confidence that game. Milne looking like one for the future along with Bekcett, Thacker brilliant in the open (his lineout was fine) also think if he had cole with him he would have been better. Also Charlie Thacker @ 12 looks like another promising player.

Brilliant game Brilliant to watch excellent defence in both halfs just lost the breakdown and set plays in the 1st half.
