June Internationals - South Africa vs. Samoa (22/06/2013)

Samoa are shooting themselves in the foot. Excelling against poorer teams and then not performing against better teams and leaving a lot of controversy when being beaten comprehensively. They should be careful as they could end up not being a le to play against good opposition because of their antics, and then the lesser teams could follow suit...

A while a go there was talks of a South Islands or South Seas combined team - Samoa, Fiji and Tonga
I am still very prone this idea - might even keep some of their players local in stead of moving to Aus/NZ

In cricket terms it worked brilliantly for the "Wes Indies"

Anyone have a picture of when PDV shake hands to Alesana after of murderer tackle who made the Samoan?

Those are cute things of Rugby. 2 true warriors and gentlemen.

Regards

Pieter De Villiers isn't a player, he was the Boks coach, but now he coaches the Western Cape university. So no, there isn't a video or picture of when they shake hands...

JDV on the other hand...

This only applies to the big loss against SA.

Samoa have put in some big efforts against tier 1 nations over the last two- three years....Betting Australia, Wales, Italy and Scotland...and just losing to Wales and SA (RWC) and France last year.

I think they have earned the right to play against the big nations, but like anything they need to play at that level or against that level year in, year out for any long term benefits to show.

We have a very good record against Argentina but will never get a look in because we dont bring the money. Thats the professional era for you. But hey, Samoa will soldier on as we are use to this treatment. Sad but true!

There was a team in the early 2000's. We played AB's, Aussie and the Boks. Funny thing is, after this tour, the AB's selected Lauaki and Sivivatu (who played in the Island team) in the AB's.

They also toured the NH acouple of years later. Would love to see another team/ tour.

If their AB eligibility would have been invalid for playing for the islanders, neither of them would have played for the islanders in the first place.

Get ready for round 2 ;)

When we do something, we like to be the best at it. So it's either extremely dirty or not dirty at all. True story.

I can appreciate that totally.

This!

My sentiments exactly. Just because you are now ranked 7th and in tier 2, doesn't mean you will win every game.

SA was their first tier 1 opponent this year. A team they have never beaten, and in SA the scores are big vs Samoa. What they should've done, was to try and keep it close and be more realistic in their approach.

After the world cup game and now this game, I think the tag of bullies/thugs fit them quite appropriately. The history between SA and Samoa seems to always bring out the worse in the Samoans. In 2003, Brian Lima smashed Hougaard, which was a brilliant tackle, but that started the animosity. In 2007 Schalk Burger and Bryan Habana both got tackled late and in the air in the same game, Habana went on to score 4 tries that day. 2011, a lot of off the ball stuff and some inapropriate comments afterwards. And now this match. I wouldn't be surprized if some sort of boycott will be up for discussion unless Samoa get their **** together.

Boycott, dont think so champ.
