June International Tests: Argentina vs. England (2nd Test) (17/06/2017)

This was one of Jones' only chances to spend two weeks with him in a pretty unpressurised environment.

Remember when I said we'd win both tests? :p

Just finished work, bearing in mind I know the score/followed text updates, is it worth watching the whole thing on iPlayer or just highlights? Sounds quite scrappy, and I hate scrums

I bet he won't play for England the whole of next season, I'll be surprised if he starts more than 3 prem games next season. Just seems like next years summer tour would of been a better one to take him on for training purposes.

I agree . Winning junior world cups over and over is breeding winners . I don't the there's a coincidence between our depth improving dramatically at the same time as our youngsters doing a great job

Our youngsters doing well has coincided with good youngsters coming through - we started reaping the rewards of the 2003 win about 4-5 years ago.

So for me the big positions up for grabs were 6 and 7.

Wilson played very well. Armand didn't do much wrong. However personally T. Curry was better than Underhill. Underhill put in some big tackles, but Curry was far more of a nuisance at the breakdown. Not sure if Underhill is a true 7.

Yep. Agreed on all of the above.

Armand didn't do anything wrong but he had no time to make an impression either.

Wilson has surely put himself in contention for the EPS. Hard to make a judgement call on Underhill on 60mins. He was OK but Tom Curry was far more impressive last week.

Also can someone explain Genge to me? He may be having an off day but he didn't seem to bring anything in the scrum or the loose, Mullan massively better when he came on. He also doesn't seem to be the brightest spark and I've seen him chewing gum whilst playing. What sort of stupid idiot do you need to be to chew gum whilst playing rugby...?

I've never seen anyone else doing it and it's stupid, why would you when you're playing a high contact sport?

Wade does it off the top of my head.

Also it's alot easy coming off the bench as a prop IMO.

Just have to look throughout the season to why Genge is starting ahead of Mullan. I mean i'm not sure what you don't understand really?

Without seeing the game it does sound like Genge had an off day,
He reminds me of a young Healy. Good enough in the scrum but brutal in open play.

Do think Mullan is ridiculously underrated on here, though.

Go for the highlights.

Dont forget hes at bath next season with francois louw so he will prob play 6 if he stars. A six who can hit hard and jackle. Plus playing with tiperic at ospreys right? So did he play 6 there too? The currys SU nathan earle iseikwe solomona players like yhat need to develop very quickly to be im for a chance of having a world cup spot at such a young age

We didnt even see maunder or iseikwe in final test, solomona was anonymous when he came on i wantwd to see him ball in hand.

The currys should havr been there on the tour cos this year is not their last chance at U20 experience but players that didnt really feature and dont get try again next year at U20s have been screwed over out if many games and alot of game time to have an EJ training camp. Will get alot but as much as the U20s.

I really wanted to see maunder i really rate him at chiefs and he did well last week. He like townsend for exeter play high pressure games at such a young age and dont crumble. They are the players you need to develop young ajd give game time too. Deffinatly dont think he would have hindered the team.

For the players that didn't play, I think their chances of making the EPS between now and the World Cup are very slim. Ben Curry and perhaps Mallinder might get more chances, but I don't see the likes of Sam James threatening the EPS again any time soon.

That said, for all we know, Eddie may have been impressed by players in training but prioritised winning the series rather than risking it.

Also, some players really were there purely as reserves - i.e. Singleton and Ford-Robinson. But for injuries, they would have been nowhere near this squad, let alone our regular EPS.

The big loser from the tour for me is Henry Slade. He showed his class with a touch of magic in the first test, but was truly awful last night. With Francis and Lozowski also competing for utility slots now, I think he may have screwed-up his best chance of cementing a place.

Jones says it's 61 players into 45 for the next EPS. I tried to find where that number has come from

I count 55 from either this squad, were in the squad but injured/banned, or are with the Lions.

10 Props: Cole, Collier, Ford-Robinson, Genge, Hill, Marler, Mullan, Vunipola, Sinckler, Williams
5 Hookers: Cowan-Dicke, Hartley, George, Singleton, Taylor
6 Locks: Ewels, Isiekwe, Itoje, Kruis, Launchbury, Lawes
11 Back rows: Armand, Clifford, Curry, Curry, Haskell, Hughes, Robshaw, Underhill, Vunipola, Wilson, Wood

3 Scrum halves: Care, Maunder, Youngs
6 10/12s: Farrell, Ford, Francis, Lozowski, Mallinder, Slade
5 Centres: Devoto, James, Joseph, Marchant, Te'o
9 Outside backs: Brown, Cokanasiga, Daly, Earle, May, Nowell, Solomona, Watson, Yarde

If you include the players who were involved in the Barbarians game it actually goes up to 61.

Beaumont, McGuigan, Harrison, Spencer, Wigglesworth, Haley

So that's that then? I'm sure there are a few surprises between here and the world cup squad but it seems like it's gas out for players that were involved with England this season but weren't in this summer.
