Ireland Wolfhounds v England Saxons - 25/01/2013

A internationals during the season are of a terrible standard. These players are better off staying at their Premiership and Pro 12 teams.

Umm never made a typo have you?

Who do you think? You know full well who I want. Stop trying to make yourself look impartial and great.

Ha, na Zebo has been great for Munster to be fair and played well in the AI's. While I think Fitz is better at his best, he's not currently at his best.

Also the only Irish stand-outs in this game were Coughlin and Henshaw, Fitz wasn't given a chance really.

Fitzgerald has looked dangerous every time he gets the ball and is incredibly hungry. He's also a fantastic defender. Zebo scored a hattrick against 14 of Racings seconds as you yourself have said. He's been pretty good not great. I don't trust his defense enough yet.

Glad to see TO'D have a good game been following his progress for a good while now.

Is it me or has Fitzgerald's tackling improved dramatically?

I did say that but he still scored a hat-trick and has looked dangerous every time he's had for Munster. I know you have a man love for Fitz but I reckon he needs another six months.

Think has tackling has been quite good for a while just everyone seems to forget it, always liked this one.

Did you or did you not also say on numerous occasions say you yourself say you could have scored a hattrick? I hardly have a man love I just think he's the better player. Zebo's danger is way overstated. IMO he's not consistent enough to be considered dangerous.

Madigan is a better option to have on the bench than Jackson.

Struggle to see how you came to that conclusion from that match - covers more positions? Thought both did well with what they had, both showed more than ROG would have - think Jackson injured himself again though. Shades of JW in how hard he hits, his size and... hopefully it won't end the same way.

Either would be much better than O'Gara, but I just think Madigan has that spark. He's abit more risk taking, and backs himself a little more than Jackson does at the moment. In terms of game control, I would Jackson is slightly better, but I think Madigan coming off the bench adds greater dimension to a team than Jackson would do.

Getting their fact cards mixed up between Eastmond and Biggs there:
"Look at the pace of Biggs, the ex-rugby league player"
Wonder if they meant sevens, not sure why league players would be necessarily faster than union?

I shae that view. Paddy Jackson needs a babysitter on the pitch. With Ulster, Ruan Pienaar and Paddy Wallace guide him through games. For Ireland A, he sat too deep in the pocket because fellow rookie Dave McSharry didn't have the experience to get him standing flatter. Ian Madigan always plays on the front foot and attacks the line. For me, a telling moment in his development was behind a beaten Leinster pack in Ravenhill. Madigan completely outshone Jackson in every facet of play. Right now Madigan is a better player.

While I agree completely that Madigan outshone Jackson that night and considering current form on face-value, would appear to be significantly further along in his development...

I would caution that I believe Paddy Jackson has been carrying injuries for quite a while now... which may be affecting his ability to run the gain line. Furthermore, he still made a couple of half breaks last night, so its not as if he's been Radge-esque in his passiveness - injured or not.

Anyway, personally, if I was Kidney, I'd have Keatley in my match day 23 rather than Jackson or Madigan. Covers 10, 12, 15 and has the pace/strength to act as a decent stand-in wing. I think it is a travesty that Radge is stealing gametime from Keatley this season.

Oh, and well done England. Deserved win... yez pack of bstarts.

If Paddy Jackson is carrying injuries that are effecting his performance, then surely the call for Madigan to start on the bench is furthered.

What must be remembered is that it's likely that Sexton will play the full 80 minutes in pretty much every game and certainly the tight ones. A partnership in the centre of Madigan and Sexton is far more dangerous in attacking terms than any other combination. Unfortunately for Keatley he's been unable to take ROGs 10 jersey and rightly or wrongly, it puts him in a bad position. Jackson has more exeprience in big games than Keatley, and unfortunately in terms of international quality and potential both Jackson and Madigan have over taken Keatley in recent years.

Jackson has a lot of potential and his game control is arguably better than Madigans. But is that really what you want coming off the bench, when Madigan will really invigorate a performance! Imagine, Marshall and Madigan coming off the bench.... This really potential to change any game.

I'll agree with what coonor is saying. I'd strongly argue the case against Jackson needing a babysitter, his best performances have come from being the main man. He also couldn't have got any flatter as a fly-half until recently when he dropped back for reasons I do not know; possibly related to his injury, possibly a tactical decision from Ulster to try getting the ball wider, possibly a reaction to crap conditions. There's a much longer Jackson post coming elsewhere...

edit: However my main point which I'd sorta forgotten was both players had reasonable games. Nothing to change your mind, but based on that one game alone there wasn't a whole lot to pick.

On the topic of Keatley - I can tell you that the majority of Munster fans, or at least the ones that I know, are calling for the switch to be made from RoG to Keatley. We do not know how Keatley is going to turn out, but we do know that at the moment O'Gara is slowing play down and that Keatley offers more in an "ball in hand" game.

And I along with many others agree with you but the fact is Keatley has started very few matches in the seasons that he has been at Munster. In contrast Jackson is now Ulsters first choice 10 and Madigan is a key player for Leinster, and has recent experience in the Heineken Cup both at fullback and 10. For me Keatley has to show more at Munster before he can over take Madigan and Jackson.
