Ireland vs England

I've just been told that Steve Thompson is a crap hooker because he plays for Leeds and they're bottom, and Lee Mears would be better than him
Also that Palmer should be dropped because he's too fat
Also that Haskell is **** and should be dropped

On the centre thing for England. Why was Banahan hyped up so much? He is powerful but he does look around him and he always runs across his outside players. Everyone said that he would run through D'Arcy and O'Driscoll and that really wasn't going to happen because of them are such good defenders both in tackling and defencive positioning. Keith Wood was right when he said "If banahan was so good he would have been in the starting team and would not have had to wait for an injury to start."

Banahan may be effective outside a creative 12, but Hape doesn't have the threat that allows the sly offload when the defence is looking the other way. I wonder if Jonny at 12 is the way to go - he has the ability and know how.

Impressed by England since the autumn matches, although the experience is mixed. They can vary their style of play, but today's result put a serious doubt over their conviction. They may be an ever better bet for the RWC!

One call above all others thoughrly ****** me off today;

33 minutes or so.

Foden collects a kick through... (can't remember which) Irish player closes him down... Foden makes the clearance kick... Ball is gone but Foden has his head taken off for good measure.

Would in any other game been a straight red. You play against what's ahead of you, but sometimes massive calls like that **** the whole thing.

Still. ********. We have a cup. The celts have owt but envy.

On centre selection, I don't see why Allen isn't picked. In terms of English centres, apart from Tindall he has the most experience in playing in high pressure games - GP finals, Heinekin cup knockouts and for 2/3 years he has consistently played against the best that Europe has to offer. Plus he does everything very well - a twelve akin on Conrad Smith in that respect.

Personally I like the idea of a Wilko/Allen/Tindall 10,12 and 13, probably the best suited ENgland players for winning tight games.

Welcome to the light.

It might just be despair at knowing Jonno will never pick him. But I'd love Allen to be involved.

And you're totally right, its not a disaster. A far more experienced side taught a lesson to a bunch of pups in a pressure game. It happens. Its pretty much standard actually.

edit: Also, I'm happy just to win the 6N. The Grand Slam would have been beyond dreaming. Yes, England have been that dire recently.

Also, Haskell's done a lot of good carrying and made some big hits, but the simple truth is the England pack have been bullied at the breakdown too often for any England back-row forward to be named player of the tournament. I'm not sure we can carry him and Easter against the best teams - both don't do enough at the breakdown. This is particularly true when missing Lawes. That said, Haskell has had a good tournament.

The job at the breakdown is supposed to be done by number 7, helped out by everyone else. England atm are in South African mode by mixing the numbers up, but it's Tom Wood who's the designated fetcher in the England side. Nonetheless, we've not really been bullied at the breakdown besides Scotland and maybe France, and that's really the 2nd row's job. And I've said it before, Deacon does **** all at the breakdown.

Pussy enjoys getting hammered. Then complaining about it.

ps. Here, pussy pussy.

FINALLY, I'm honestly not at all surprised by this Irish performance, I knew this team would eventually click and be devastating, we've seen glimpses of it since last november and we finally got it for 80 minutes. It's similar to what happened with Leinster at the start of the season, they made so many errors but we could all see what they were trying to do and when they finally clicked they became the best team in Europe. Now all we have to do is keep this up and somehow figure out a way to injure O'Leary before every Ireland game.

Somebody said O'Brien didn't do much, what game were you watching, he was everywhere again tonight and I have no doubt he will once again be on PR's team of the week. My favourite moment of the match was when he smashed all 6'8 of Banahan out of his way. He's simply the best backrow forward in the Six Nations.

Deacon is shunte, but the France game was a highwater mark for him - and no, England didn't get bullied at the breakdown there. They did today. I see a lot of people going on about how the half-backs were poor, I thought they went ok considering that the pack was pooed on. Haskell offers nothing counter-rucking, very little to our own ball security. Forget the SOB comparisions, compare him to Chabal, a man who exists solely to charge and make the odd tackle. Its not good enough. I would convey to Haskell thats what needs to happen, stick him on the bench, and play Croft and Wood with Easter in our next match (assuming all fit).

Atleast Ashton didn't have much joy yesterday, come to think of it, he was completly out of the game. No smug little celebration yesterday, thankfully. Funny when ROG and him with at it..

:) Lads haven't wrote much until now but I thought the English were saying they had POC and DOC in their pocket.
Delighted Sexton had a superb well and the way ROG came in and played his part was great too and showed if it's done right we can use these 2 extremely effectively.
Earls had a superb game but wasn't tested really but still you can only play what your given.
Trimble too had a fine game and was really a step up on previous outings. The pack were immense and Sean O'Brien is just a beast.
