Ireland vs Australia

proof if it was ever needed that he's an utter f***wit. The only Ospreys game he's probably seen him play was the Heineken Cup quarter final last year, probably only watches the rugby that's on RTÉ, you'd be surprised if he even watched the Lions tests, yet this is RTÉ's premier rugby analyst. He has his comedy moments but other than that his knowledge of the game leaves an awful lot to be desired, you'd have to seriously question the people who have mentioned him as a possibility to take over at Connacht.

Popey was the only one who thought we'd win the slam as well. If they had him and O'Shea on their own they'd be doing well. They should also look at Emmet Byrne and Denis Hickie as well.

I think Byrne is an excellent analyst. He cuts right through the bullshit and says what he thinks without resorting to soundbites like Hook or Neil Francis. Setanta's team of Byrne, Andy Robinson, Liam Toland and Matt Williams at the last world cup was outstanding. TV3's wasn't bad either - Michael Cheika was awful but Hugo McNeill and Trevor Brennan didn't mince their words when asked straight questions by Matt Cooper.

Maybe next season with the Magners League coverage supposedly moving to RTE we'll see Byrne and Toland jump ship to the state broadcaster.I wouldn't count on it though - we'll be stuck with the "insights" of David F'n Corkery.

Australia are a pretty good team. They are young though so they arent at their best yet and they will get better. Ireland must win this game. No f***ing excuses. it wont be easy, and you imagine it'll be tight enough but these are the games you have to win.

And could the SA fans please stop trying to turn this into another thread about South Africa. You'll get you turn in a few weeks.

I have a lot of time for Brent Pope, he just gives the impression that he loves the game and watches a lot of it. Is the only journo who is saying Sexton should start too :bravo:

In my opinion, the Irish and the French are always the most entertaining teams in the NH and to be honest I'd rather watch this game than the New Zealand vs Wales stinker any day.

I'm hoping for an Irish win, but even more I'm hoping for a close, exciting game with at least a couple of tries per team.

Ireland are shite. AUstralia will win this game quiet easily.[/b]
Based on what exactly? Australia have been pretty poor this year, while Ireland have so far gone through the year unbeaten. Australia may with the game, but it sure as heck won't be easy!

Aus are a young team building while Ireland, although put on somewhat of a pedestal in the North, are a settled team with good players in just about every position and great players in some and that without Aus' injury worries.
To very similar teams; average forward packs but with exciting backlines. The fact that Ireland has a settled and fit squad and the lack of any quality sort of positional play from Aus should see Ireland as favourites though I wouldn't bet a pair of socks on it.

As for SA, well, we'll cross that brigde when we come to it.

.

If Barnes weren't injured, I'd have gone for Aus to be slight favourites. It's that close IMO.

I reckon Aus are more talented than SA man for man, but SA have the better system.[/b]

No team in the world has the kind of talent we do in South Africa. I'm sorry, but man for man, we have more talented players than anyone. Every single season we have some kind of 'revelation' pop out of nowhere.

I reckon Rocky Elsom has chosen this game to return to form and play a blinder.

Yeah, I read his mind on that too, but was really hazy on some of the other things he's thinking. What was it he's planning to have for dinner again?
