Ireland v France

Terrible news. Kearney has been fantastic every time he has played fullback for ages.

At least it gives Murphy a chance to prove himself at fullback.

well how many more chances does he need.

Thankfully though Kidney is still confident he'll be fine despite him being on crutches after training yesterday.

I hope Kearney is alright. He is by far the best option we have.

Murphy has been good this season, he really is a very good back up fullback. How many of his f*** ups against France happened when he was playing fullback? All the ones that immediately come to mind are of him playing on the wing against Clerc

be that as it may, he's still a defensive liability regardless of what position he plays. We said last year he had a point to prove and look what he did in Paris. He's been given too many chances.

Fingers crossed for Kearney cause without him we're in serious trouble.

And look what he did against Scotland. Two big differences, obviously the opposition, but also the Position. He is much more of a threat and much less of a defensive liability at fullback. He should never have been playing on the wing in the first place against France. From what I remember everybody was surprised (well not surprised seeing it was Eddie) Bowe didn't start against Italy or France.

I was going to launch into a defense of Murphy at fullback but I started having flash backs of turnstyle tackling.

Paris 2006 was probably his biggest calamity and he was full back that day.[/b]
He also screwed up in last years game against France by kicking the ball away when time had expired. However I don't buy the "Murphy v France = disaster" argument. People seem to forget his brilliant performance against Les Bleus when we last beat them in the 2003 6 Nations. He kicked an opportunist drop goal in that game which proved to be the difference between the sides. While Kearney would clearly be a loss, Murphy is an able deputy if called upon.

well that was all he did in that game if memory serves and it was pretty early on in the game, that was a pretty tight game and he didn't offer much in attack and let's remember prior to the leg break he was in outstanding form so dissappointing not to get more from him in attack.

I think that game will be remembered for O'Kelly's headless chicken break, great stuff

I think that Chabal (if he will be on the game) will going to decimated Ireland lines

he is playing but he's gone missing when going up against Irish opposition be that international or provincial level, he certainly has a point to prove come Saturday.

In my opinion, if Chabal had a sensible haircut rather than looking like a caveman, nobody would pay any notice to him as a player. He can be a good ball carrier but doesn't show that form half enough. Hit him early and he'll have a quiet game.

That's perfectly true. As a matter of fact, we would rather have had Alice Cooper, Jenna Jameson, or Otto from the Simpsons, but he was the only one with long hair available at that moment. That's the story of how he has been a french international for five years.

You know I was kind of thinking the same (re: haircut). I dont think snoopy was questioning his ability, as hes a damn good player, but the hair and image brings a bit too much hype with it, leading people to think he is a little better then he really is. Kind of like Gavin Henson, or Cipriani.

He became an international before ho grew his beard and long hair. And he has been kept away from the national team for quite long because coaches believed he wasn't good enough.
Now he's back, and had a very good game against the aussies in autumn, always going forward ball in hand, causing turnovers in defense and otherwise doing an overall good job.

That's exactly what I was getting at.

Murphy wasn't that bad with Leicester in Heineken Cup, I even found he was solid. He's always a risk in defense but after all... we have Poitrenaud...

And yes, Chabal has been owned two times against Munster, when playing at lock. Hopefully he'll get his revenge saturday...

I don't care if it's a cliché but there's still a huge difference between Heineken Cup level and international rugby. Ian Dowling is a more than useful player for Munster but he's not an international winger.

Just been reading some of the, shall we say Literature on the Irish rugby website and noticed at the end of one of the pages:

"We've also had a few lads training this week with the senior squad, like Devin Toner and Ian Keatley, just to give them some experience."

Looks like he does have an eye on the wonderfull Ian Keatley.

I've unfortunatly lost all confidence in Murphy in the Ireland set up. fantastic player but for some reason he rarely has a good natch for Ireland.
