Ireland v Argentina

Open letter to Declan Kidney

Dear Mr. Kidney,

Thanks for taking Andrew Trimble so Ulster can have a better look at this Craig Gilroy boy.

It's worked out really well for us.

Regards,
Peat

Think there's got to be a sense of balance here. Ireland suffer from a lack of depth in certain positions and a few injuries can really knock them about. Also, they are having to rework their game style.

But - from the outside looking in - it looks like Kidney's made his mind up on things and isn't interested in evidence that doesn't support it. He's made up his mind the scrum's not that important, despite Ireland's best game coming with Ireland's best scrum. He's made up his mind that Tony Buckley is a better prop than Tom Court, which is not well supported at the moment. He's - crucially - made up his mind on his World Cup squad, and isn't really interested in trying anyone new or bringing in replacements for the older legs.

And I think any Ireland fan who agrees with that paragraph would be ****** off and worried by that selection. Most of that team is spot on (if you're not going to experiment) but the few dodgy bits would suggest Kidney is wedded to ideas that are causing Ireland a lot of trouble.

We shall see.

That's a good team. Don't understand what people are complaining about, especially when they question the selection of the best player in the world.

Trimble is a solid winger - has to be better than Fitzgerald after his rotten defence against the ABs.

The only worry I have is Mick O'Driscoll - not an international player. But what option is there?

Wondering if Argentina have any new stars coming along.

Erroneous!

shtove - fact that you even suggested Trimble is in same class as Luke show's you must've been drunk writing that :D

Feic - if you read properly what I said was we could be in trouble for 6Nations because we have Scotland and Wales away and home advantage is massive while we rarely do well in Murrayfield as it is and Wales may be as bad as us but at least they've tested alot of players and we simply have refused to improve our squad options. I'd have no problem with todays selections if we had rotated and tested players but well Mike Ross, Keith Earls, Sean O'Brien, John Muldoon, Tom Court and a few more must be feeling like they can't do anything to earn a spot.

Iraly are an ever improving side also and well England and France are ahead of the rest of us now so Feic my point was (considering the fixtures for 2011) it is possible for a 5th or 6th place finish and that is not been negative it's been realistic.

And also Feic I said Ireland are producing crap after crap well truth is we haven't played excellent for a long time and that is supported by results so don't say that is nonsense

Eh?
14 Mar 2009 Scotland 15 22 Ireland Murrayfield
11 August 2007 Scotland 32 21 Ireland Murrayfield
10 March 2007 Scotland 18 19 Ireland Murrayfield
12 February 2005 Scotland 13 40 Ireland Murrayfield
6 September 2003 Scotland 10 Ireland 29 Murrayfield

Four wins in our last five appearances is Murrayfield would say differently. We should have no fear going to Scotland and our records against Wales and Italy are similarly impressive.

Meh, it's just as easy to say that we could go and win the thing. None of the NH teams have really impressed me thus far aside from one good performance from England against Oz.

I actually didn't understand what you meant by this during my first reading. You could've meant results, talents or anything. I'd agree that our form hasn't been great as of late however form can eauily change. Going into 2009 we looked fairly awful too. No need to be so downhearted. It's only sport sure.:p

I agree about the scotland thing. they have had a good year but suddenly they are considered they hv come from being the laughing stock of the six nations to being favourites to beat so many teams. Lets not forget Scotland lost to Itay this year, got destroyed by New zealand and have only manaed to score 4 tries in the whole of 2010 so far (I think). They have come on alot this year but I sill rate them as the worst in the Home Nations.

Wow, Irish fans are way too bloody negative. Ireland will beat Italy(For the 12th time in a row), Scotland(Who I don't rate at all, look at the 49-3 loss to NZ), Wales, and England(England haven't won in Dublin since 2003, Ireland have won 6 of the last 7 meetings between the sides, Ireland won in Twickenham this year and England haven't improved that much since then). France are the only NH team that have held an edge over Ireland in the past 10 years and even they are beatable away from Paris. So cheer up.

This is not true.

Concentrating on Scotland getting gubbed by NZ rather than their victories over Aus/SA/Arg/Ire is mildly mendacious in my view too.

Not saying Scotland are favourites but just they've improved and I just think records show in total history we find Scotland a tricky team

Well England's 21-11(could have been a lot worse) defeat to SA makes me doubt them. Scotland played a severely weakened Pumas team and a better team would have beaten them by more.

Not saying Trimble is in the same class - Fitzgerald was worse than useless against the ABs. Like an Irish banker.

However Fitzgerald was perhaps our best player against SA and Somoa. He had a bad game against the AB but he has just come back to international rugby. I like Trimble as cover but I think their are others who deserve a chance.

Where's this whole thing about Fitzgerald playing badly against NZ coming from? This is news to me. He had a perfectly cromulent performance...

irelands call is needed though political reasons :p

wallace down early
may be bad to lose a player but getting leamy on early could be good
