Just bought the DVD set. With the hype thats around it I hope it lives up to its expectations.
Personally I think as a series it does a lot of things better than LOTR. More believable characters (ie. self interest, shades of grey, etc.), more political manoeuvring , so on, so forth.
I expect he'll turn important soon. I personally expect him to become "Lord of Winterfell, Warden of the North" so on so forth or at least a puppet leader. Why what has Rickon done ever like seriously? Why is he in the books.
I'm planning on trying to fit the commonly seen phrase " as much use as nipples on a breastplate" into a rugby related thread
eg Tomas O'Leary is about as much use as nipples on a breastplate
Anyone catch the first episode of the new series?
I thought it was pretty good, although it did feel very introductory if you get me. Also, perhaps it was a bit rushed, but you get that with the TV show.
Hardly a spoiler or anything this, but don't read if you haven't read the books I guess. Would have loved if they'd done the proper prologue with Maester what's his face and Melissandre. It was included, but it could have been done better and would have set a nice tone. They could have dropped that 'last season on...' thing to include it.
I can't use that because im outside America, which is really annoying because its hard to find it elsewhereJust watched the next episode (they put it on "HBO GO", their online thing in America, last Sunday but I waited till today to watch it so I didn't have 10 days to wait for the next) - I'm not too sure.
While it's a good episode, they've started changing it a fair bit. I can understand some of the changes, as in the book it takes a while to explain what's gone on, but others aren't really needed (the bit right at the end of the episode for example).
I think it's just because I'm comparing it to the book - by itself it'd be great, but I prefer the way it's gone on in the book.
