Good MLS match in San Jose, California today. San Diego FC (my team in white) beat the San Jose Earthquakes, 2-1. Here's the best goal of the three. 👍

Sport being disrupted by the covid years which in Australia felt like it went on until 2022 really hit my interest and for soccer it hasn't quite come back. Didn't watch any of the 2022 World Cup. Last year went to Europe for the first time and went to 1 Champions League game in France and no games of any kind in England. That would've been hard to picture as recently as 2020.

In the Times Matthew Syed calling out Hannah Hampton as cheating by throwing away the Spanish keeper’s water bottle with analysis of our pen takers in the Euro final shoot out.

She’s boasted about it and pretty much everyone else has genuflected at her cunning. But he’s right, that crossed the line. Imagine the outrage if the boot had been on the other foot.

Having the pen takers analysis on the water bottle is cheating. If your too thick to memorise it then that’s your problem.

How? And obviously you’d take the same view of Hampton’s sporting ethics and intellectual capacity if she’d happened to have had the equivalent Spanish information taped to her arm?

By chucking the bottle away she was trying to gain an advantage for her team. She has said as much. As it happens there is some dispute whether she actually managed to throw away the right bottle, but Syed’s right, the act and intent shouldn’t be celebrated.

I don't give a **** really to be honest but while my post was a bit tongue in cheek I also think it's a joke that you can't do a bit of studying on a laptop (this is what pro goalkeepers do) and remove the possibility of that situation occurring.

Sport is largely about who can cheat the best anyway.

Saw a clip on this when it came out and thought it was quite poor too, didn't care enough to comment.

Would be condemned if it was her gloves or towel and I don't see any difference with a water bottle, notes or no notes.

Presume keepers will start going to opposite sides of the goal if they're allowed as a result.

What a game between Newcastle and Liverpool tonight. With the whole Isak saga giving it an edge it didn’t disappoint. Liverpool outplayed by Newcastle for large parts of the game even after a reckless red by Gordon. 2-0 up and Newcastle came back to level. But 16 yo Rio Ngumoha popped up to score the winner. Remember the name!

The 15yo at Arsenal, Max Dowman looks decent as well.

Was playing Arsenal u18 at 13yo.

I blame Barcelona and Yamal for setting this trend.
Barca, and other Spanish teams, can afford to do it as La Liga is slower and a lot less physical so if you have an insanely talented kid you can give them that exposure. (Obviously Lamal is a bit of a beast physically which helps)

Dowman looks likes he’s 18 from a physical perspective but it’s ridiculous how young he is. I think Lego head has grown him in a lab. Mate of mine text me years ago as he saw him play for Arsenal under 16 when he was 12 and said he was best player on the pitch by a mile.

Still I see Arteta has got him cheating and diving already as is his way.

Didn't Rooney debut at 16. Difference being Rooney looked 52 due to a hard paper round.
Yeah just under 17. There's a great video of Rooney talking about how he was 15/16 going to train with Everton's first team for the first time and he was like "these guys are **** I'm better than these"

He said it not in a Johnny big ******** kind of way just really matter of fact. Imagine being a kid and just knowing you're better than all these guys, guys you probably looked up to your whole childhood.

I'll see if I can find the clip later.
