F1 Racing

My suggestion that Sainz might blossom into an Alonso type driver is looking decidedly shakey. Some really good racing in the rear of the field, showing off the regs but by the gods how can this sport seemingly never have even 3 competitive teams at the same time?

Must feel weird for Mercedes, they are 2nd in the constructors championship and 2nd in the drivers championship and yet have looked some way off actually being the 2nd best team. Red Bull could have seriously ****** up if their technical problems continue through the year, it's been quite a while since a driver and team has been taken out of contention largely because of mechanical failures alone. Good to see Ferrari back in contention, I didn't like them much during the Schumacher era and their dodgy deal with their fuel system some time back but always good having another team in contention and even leading.

Sainz just doesn't seem to be delivering on expectation. Maybe he's been unlucky and it will level out over the year but at the moment, Perez feels like the stronger 2nd driver.

I would absolutely love it if Mercedes and another team (for me, I'd like McLaren) can at least start snapping at the heels of Ferrari and RB. That could make this season so much better. It's also interesting looking at the grid how so few drivers retire at the top. You have Vettel right at the back, Alonso competing but mostly upper midfield and last year Raikkonnen sat around the back. For all the hate he gets, Hamilton is one of the few drivers who has kept in contention right up to the point where he retires (can't seem him sticking around beyond this year). Very few drivers fall out of grace and then come back into it (Hamilton again being one of these).

Short of Leclerc suffering DNFs too or some other serious reversal in fortune, he looks like a good bet this season.

Merc only just about getting out of Q1... They have seriously messed up the new regs. Latifi being Latifi...

New regs did nothing but just change which team had a .5 second advantage over the others. Remember that Verstappen is still behind Hamilton in the driver standings though and Mercedes is number two overall. The clock is ticking but they might be able to pull some magic.

Did Latifi bin it? Won't get a chance to watch. I thought he'd challenge Albon this season, he showed a bit of something at the back end of last year I thought.

Has regressed massively

no he just slid into the grass like a dog with too long nails sliding across a hardwood floor. Williams should have been bought by Andretti. Sainz binned it.

Yeah watching now while waiting for the housemate to get ready. Sainz is having a mare this year.

Sainz doing well enough for a juicy contract extension according to Ferrari. He must have good personal relations with Leclerc and be considered as having given up ambitions of being a number 1 driver, instead willing to take a big pay cheque and be subservient like a Perez or Bottas. Disappointing on multiple fronts. Merc and McLaren the only big teams with genuine internal competition and both are irrelevant this season.

Possibly but this looks like they have problems well beyond tweaking. Both Mercs out in Q2, this hasn't happened since the pre-hybrid era. I see Merc falling away from No 2 more likely than solidifying it.

if you cause a red flag during qualifying you should have to start from the pits. This is getting ridiculous.

Have they coated the track in teflon? This is ridiculous. I don't understand why the drivers all keep going on the white line when it is clearly causing cars to spin...

Who does this forum want to win out of interest? I think I'm alone, if not definitely in the minority, as a Ferrari/Leclerc fan who doesn't mind RB and Verstappen whereas Verstappen is enemy no.1 in this parts otherwise.

So I suppose my question is which is preferable between a competitive championship battle or misfortune for Max?

I want Verstappen to dnf every race til the end of time and could care less who wins. I'm being dead serious.

Edit: id prefer sainz/gasly to win but that isn't going to happen

I'd like Mclaren and Norris to do well but, realistically, I'd like Leclerc to win over Verstappen.

Unlucky for Sainz, he's not having a great few races. I'd say that was most Ricciardo's fault but Sainz probably could have squeezed less going in.

Ric could have kept that tighter, Sainz definitely the victim. Sainz could have given more room and kept the position though, no need to shut a slower car out in wet conditions like that.
