EOYT: Wales v Argentina, 10/11/2012

I thought Phillips wasn't available for this game.

Lloyd Williams can be trusted, and should either start or sit on the bench. I would have Charteris start infront of AWJ. I would give Liam Williams a run out at fullback.

Also I think we have a different opinion on Roberts ... he dropped ball today only because the passes to him were dire, better service would have been beneficial to him. Sometimes he was expect to catch the ball when Preistland had taken his angle away from him, poor rugby. He tackled well and did the job right up until he got his head stuck in the wrong place and injured himself.

I would also be tempted to chuck Harry Robinson on the wing for either North or Cuthbert.

Also I would like to see the ground staff doing something with the pitch, as well as the players wearing longer studs.

Was really disappointed with the performance today, they really need to make a few changes to the squad for the next games. I think Howley hasn't got the balls to try new things and is sticking to the teams that Gatland has picked in the past.

I think that the Preistland decision was a complete joke and that it was only going to end badly and it did he just had no creativity most of the game he just kicked it straight there fullback or passed it straight to the man next to him.

I thought that Turnbull didn't play to bad I was actually quite impressed with his tackling in the first half (don't think he missed one?) Knoyle wasn't to bad his delivery was good but he was passing to preistland most of the time so nothing good came of it. When Hook came on I thought he played decent and stated a claim for a starting place.
Warburton could do with being benched in favour of Tipuric for a game or two to hopefully spur him into turning round his form as he was invisible for most of the game.

As for the scrums they seemed to be beating argentina in the first half, but when AWJ went off they started losing and when they took of Jenkins for beavington they started collapsing and giving away pens.

I thought it was the Aus game that Phillips wasn't available for (along with Paul James and James Hook). If Alun-Wyn is fit, I'd probably still start him. He was very poor today, but he is one player that has been playing well at regional level this season, so I think he'd bounce back. Wouldn't be against Charteris starting, his general workrate would be beneficial.

Halfpenny should be retained. This was possibly his only poor game ever for Wales. He's been one of Wales' best players over the past year. I don't see a need for any knee jerk reactions regarding him. Halfpenny will be in complete distress over the mistakes he made today, and will be determined to put them right.

I agree that Roberts had a tough time, often receiving man and ball, or passes that should never have been given to him in the first place. But he's simply not playing well at the moment, and there didn't appear to be any signs of that changing today in the time he was on the field. We are lacking creativity in the midfield to actually get our back three in the game, that's where Beck can possibly make a difference.

I don't see how Harry Robinson has earn't a chance to start. He's not playing for the Blues, and hasn't done much when he has. Still a lot of potential, but North and Cuthbert are easily our best wingers at the moment. Neither had bad games today, but they were not given any space or territory today to do anything. Both worked hard all game.

Agree about the pitch or studs. Wales players slipping all over the place!

No way Robinson should play.
The Samoans would have a field day. I think everybody knows who I would put on the wing.
Halfpenny is vital for goal kicking, even if Biggar plays.

Think I forgot to mention / add that some of my selections would be based on resting players, just feel we got to rotate some of the boys e.g. North / Cuthbert.

Same would go for AWJ who if it's an injury no point risking him only to aggravate it.

If Phillips is available then let him play. With Lloyd coming off the bench early to get some gametime.

So you would risk North / Cuthbert for the game? I felt some rotation will be needed for this game.

So you would be happy to risk North / Cuthbert for the game?

Ah OK, makes sense then. Doesn't look good for Alun-Wyn though by all accounts.

AWJ apparently has damaged his AC Joint.

Bad news, apparently been confirmed by Howley.

I wish I had been there to take these photos :D. Are not mine, they are from the Union Argentina de Rugby web page.

Ah ok. Try to remember to cite the source next time. Don't want to get the forum into trouble over copyright.

I don't think we have any other options. It is certainly a must win.

Hey, congratulations on the win btw. Think I forgot to congratulate Argentina due to being so cross. Argentina deserved to win this game, and put some good stuff together, especially in the second half. Lobbe was head and shoulders above any player on the field, although the both Argentine wings were also impressive.

If Ryan isn't fit, what do we do?
Bearman. Good form, you know he will put it about and not get put off by the Samoans.

Was quite impressed by Argentina who were well organised but also not afraid to create chances, Wales were poor though as well but hopefully they can bounce back!

Mmuunnggoo!

Though on second thoughts: You can keep your filthy mitts off of him!

I think the fact of playing regularly against teams with a higher level although generally those games ended in defeat, would result in a significant improvement in the Pumas game sooner or later, and it was seen in this match.

Is that the difference between the worst southern team and the best northern team?

No, the worse Southern team is Australia haha. The Wobblies got smoked.

Really happy for Argentina, great for them to have some solid matches all year round. They will only get better with their exposure to the All Blacks & Springboks (and the Wallabies when they shake this funk they're in).

Wellington Lions | Wellington Hurricanes | All Blacks | 'Ikale Tahi & now England!

I hope all rugby teams continue underestimating Los pumas, keep up overconfidence buddies :devban:

No chance of us doing that in the next few weeks anyways! Argentina are a match for practically anyone in the world at this stage, and with ranking points at risk, I expect Ireland-Argentina to be an extremely tough, 50-50 battle, Looking forward to it.

We're still celebrating here! We were so close against Australia and tied against the Springboks, that we deserved a performance like that (and a win too). Sanchez and Imhoff have to start up more frequently (don't see Amorosino on the field was a pity), Fernandez Lobbe was enormous, Figalo and Tiesi too. Finally we don't desperate in the last minutes and we kept concentrated.
I followed all the Wales matches in Six Nations, and I don't understand what happened today? Just Halfpenny and Faletau have showed something, I mean you have amazing players, North, Warburton, etc... and a few months ago they were on a high level.
Come on Wales, wake up! You have all the potential to be on top.

Can't wait next matches.
