England vs Wales - 06/08/2011 - RWC Warm Up

Maybe Shane'll get so annoyed at Philips he'll just take over at SH? :p

Id be extremely glad to see that happen. Few darts down the blind, i like the sound of that ;D

How can you call Wilko and Jones even? Wilko is twice the player Jones is, even now?

Keep telling yourself that. I admire Wilkinson hugely, but he's not been world class since '03. Jones has been steadily one of the best 10's in the NH for nigh on a decade now, and was probably the second best 10 in the world in 09. Jones has dipped slightly, but not as much as people think. Wilkinson's Toulon form is good, although I wouldn't say spectacular by any means. If all we go on is club form, then we should see Jon Davies completely outplay Flutey and Tuilagi outplay Roberts, but it won't happen like that, because international rugby is a completely different level. Jones and Wilkinson are about even, with Jones just edging it due to his recent international form, although Phillips could quite easily turn it completely the other way.

If somebody will answer me what this fabled "world class" moniker that gets attached to every flavour of the week player is, I'd be grateful.

PS

Wilko & Jones = Past it

Im gonna throw a spanner in the works and say Shane for Wales 10 =P his jinking would be ever so similar to Bennets in the 70's. Also i remember him back in early Neath days kicking for posts =P hhahah

Mostly this.

Except I wasn't aware that Stephen Jones had any good recent international form. Still a good player though.

I'll see what happens tommorow, before I get into a Wilko discussion again :p. When Wilko has had regular game time he's been great. And has the goods to be a far better player than Jones.

Not great recent international form, but not terrible. England's first choice 10 has been Flood, so Wilkinson hasn't had much gametime, so Jones' international form has been better by default. Jones was used as a bit of a scape goat by many fans and the media during the 6 nations for the lack of creativity in the backline, prompting Gatland to give Hook another try there. I still think Hook would suit the current game better than Jones, IF he had been playing there week in week out for the O's over the past couple of seasons, but as he hasn't been, Jones is still Wales' best option.

Fair enough. Although I'm not sure what these 'goods' you talk about are. He's got a better kicking game, although Jones' is far from poor, and he's got slightly better tackling, although again Jones is one of the best defensive 10's going. Other than that, Wiklo's never been all that much of an attacking 10, especially nowerdays, he's more of an orchistrator and kicking fly-half, which is kinda how I'd describe Jones. Jones may not be the most naturally athletic players, and he looks a little awkward when he runs, but he's worked his socks off to make the most of what he was given.

Can we just clone Shane and put him as every position? And Bulk him out to play in the forwards? XD

Personal view on Englands game:

- The front row will be awkward at first but soon settle into it.
- Shaw will add some much needed oomph from the second row that we have been lacking.
- Moody will be out to prove himself. He will be eager. Hopefully make some good tackles and lead from the front.
- Haskell will perform like he does at 7, which will hopefully add something to the huge gaping hole that is left whenever Easter plays.
- Reckon Danny Care will do something stupid. Just a gut feeling. He knows he needs to do something big to displace Youngs and can see him being abit bone headed.
- Wilko will keep the scoreboard ticking over, causing a division between his supporters and Floods.
- Tuilagi will be raring to go. Wales may have thought about him and so slow the ball down or nuetralise him.

Overall, I think England will perform well. I think the match will be tight because Wales are a good side when they beleive in themselves (alot of the fans on here obviously dont) but I think England will pull away with this one.

More I think about it more I think, just maybe, Wales could snatch this (always happens when I start to get excited about a match :p). I'd say England have the slight edge in the centres, because it's slightly more balanced than the Welsh but I'm going on Flutey's form from 2009, haven't seen him play at all recently. Can see Roberts and Tuilagi cancelling each other out though.
Not too sure about our 2nd choice front row, but then again England struggled with it this year in the 6N. Haven't seen Stevens play, but heard good things about him.
Phillips will be a key man for us, if he's shite, Wales will struggle because of the poor ball he's providing. Here's oping if he is shite, Gatland will have the sense to bring on Knoyle good and early to sort this out.

vBookie England - Wales

vBookie added. Enjoy and good luck betting!

First time I've actually betted on a Wales match. Now they absolutely must win. I've got an 100% record up until this point.

Never really betted at all before, real or virtual cash  here's hoping Wales give me the (v)moneys!

I second the posts above, almost put a bet on (******) during the 6 nations for wales to win championship :p Luckily i didn't ;) ;) Lets hope for better luck tomorrow :D

Cheers Ezequiel :D

Put my life savings (10 vCash :p ) on England

I was just watching some clips of England in 08/09 - If Armitage and Flutey can play like that again, then I'd be a happy man
