England vs Wales - 06/08/2011 - RWC Warm Up

Halfpenny was named in the original squad as our back-up full back. Stoddart was down as a winger.

True. If he is back in time, I wouldn't be shocked to see Leigh as fullback v Argentina.
I'd like to see Delve at 8 as well, considering his great form this season.

Would like to see Halfpenny at 15 and Delve at 8. Gatland must give these boys chances to play there.

One of the big problems the Welsh have is the lack of ball carriers in the pack. Davies and Jones are having to do most of the dog work at the breakdown so arent available to carry. The front row are simply not a factor outside of the setpiece and the backrow seem to be a collection of (not very effective) ground hogs. The balance in that eight is all wrong if you ask me.

England just need to defend that centre channel and everything slows down very quickly.

News coming from Wales camp is that Gethin Jenkins, Gareth Delve and Henson are all in line to make a start on Saturday.

Wasn't Henson in line for a start this week? :p

I wouldn't start Henson, I'd give him the 21 shirt and start Williams

Hopefully. Adam Jones would be nice aswell, but I think he won't be risked untill the world cup. I wouldn't mind seeing Turnbull tried at 6 either, just to see if we've got another option there other than Lydiate and Ryan Jones.

Should be another cracking match, with hopefully less mistakes from both sides. Whilst Saturdays game at Twickenham was all about the performance (although a win would have been a massive boost), the game at home in the MS is a must win game imo. Everything won't be lost if we loose narrowly, but unless we can turn the tide on these 'narrow' defeats, the confidence and belief won't fully return. With a few personnel changes, especially in the pack, I think we should scrape a win.

I can't wait to see the teams, I have a feeeling this game will be a step-up from the last.

If Gethin jenkins and Adam Jones are back in the lineup we'll need to strengthen our scrum as much as possible. Think Olyy you could be right about Thompson starting. Pretty sure Mj won't risk Sheridan, and I think he already knows Stevens' place so i'm expecting A Corbisiero, Thompson and Cole front row.

I'd love to see a 'full-strength' backline next week but it won't happen. with 9) youngs 10) Flood 11) Cueto/ Sharples 12) Flutey 13) Tuilagi 14) Ashton 15) Foden i'd say we'd be just about favourites. it'll be more experimental than that I imagine, probably something more like 9) Wigglesworth 10) Hodgson 11) Sharples 12) Flutey 13) Tindall 14) Ashton 15) Armitage.

I'd love a win but if there's that sort of experimentation it might be beyond us

hopefully then it should be a good lineup. Don't think there will be many changes other than jenkins/henson and delve.

Would be nice to see -
1-Jenkins
2-Rees
3-Jones (but can see James or Craig mitchell playing tbh)
4-Davies
5-AWJ (or even R. Jones)
6- Lydiate
7- Warburton
8-Delve
9- Knoyle
10- Priestland
11- Shane (or Brew)
12- Henson (see how he goes)
13- Davies
14- North
15- Halfpenny (hope to god gatland doesnt put Hook there tbh)

Priestland should start at 10 tbh he played well on sat and it gives him a chance to show what he can do, we know what Jones and Hook can do.. either have him at 10 or fullback with North at 11 and halfpenny at 14, save shane for the WC

Listen what worries me is where is it going to end? Think about premiership football clucbs. Man utd. Not an Englishmen in sight. In 20 years time 20% of the english rugby team will be foriegn.

From theiur community sheld match Smalling, Ferdinand, Carrick, Young, Welbeck and Rooney. With Jones and Cleverly on the bench.
