England vs Canada - 10/07/21

Are there any players from the training squad to not get used?

That is a team im so close to being so happy with, just replace Ludlow with Curry and out him as Captain(or Underhill for that matter), Ludlow was anonymous last week and didnt even play the 80, he really isnt the future England captain, and Curry deserves a really shot after injury put his brother on a trajectory to be in a World cup final and on a lions tour! And obv he is class.

Other than that im happy.

Really hope the Dombrandt Randall Smith axis causes Canada all kind of issues.

Better than many teams Jones has done. Don't mind a bit of experience splattered through the squad, even if we expect to beat Canada we shouldn't do so in a headless chicken every pass is a miracle pass way. Locks are meh, am I missing something with the young Tiger lad who was looking like a real prospect? Ewels is just so eurgh and lacking outstanding features in any sort of way. I think Squidge described him as the "default player" that you then modify to make all the other players. No glaring weaknesses, no great x factor, just sort of there and does the job of a lock, although he has recently stood out as a penalty machine frequently getting carded...

I guess it comes down to whether you think England need a mass rebuild or just a few tweaks.

For 2023, more strength in depth needed in some positions, but starter wise 8, 9, 10, 12, and 15 should all be right up grabs and probably to newcomers. May's position must also be under threat. Definitely more than tweaks, and in some pretty important positions.

Rodd, Oghre, Hill (Paul), Munga, Kenningham, Mitchell, Ojomoh, Bassett... am I forgetting anyone?

This will explain Kenningham......

And Munga was an apprentice.

That's a shame for Kenningham. So is Rodd the only one who could be capped by Scotland, the rest we will have captured for England or are not at risk of being poached?

Locks really are always going to be meh at this stage really.
I'm hoping Isiekwe will kick on now he's back at sarries him and Itoje as a partnership.

Being biased but out of all our locks in this squad Wells it prob IMO the most likely to potentially be a decent bridge between the obvious internationals and any of the upcoming ones and only 27. Sort of fits the 5. type lock Eddie seems to like.

I've been impressed by Wells but my only qualm with him is that, like Itoje, he's only 6'5. He carries a lot of weight to be fair to him but England just don't seem to be able to find good locks with the height that just about every other Tier 1 nation has.

Kelly never skips leg day.

Yeah I miss a giant lock for England. I watched Henderson in envy again and few we need a monster to partner Itoje.

If only Dave attwood was English qualified…..
Surely you mean 'if nylon Dave Attwood was 10 years younger'?

I agree with you in principle, but we can't really complain that giant locks aren't being picked when we don't have any that are even close to good enough to justify being selected.

Hold your horses, I'm not bring serious about wanting Attwood picked now. But I do think in general we have a lack of big locks around. That's why I'm partial to Hill and Moon because they could fill that role.
