Canada v. England Saxons

Might as well hand the Saxons the trophy, Ed Fairhurst has been forced to return to Canada due to work commitments, maybe there is an earthquake on the Pacific Coast he needs to stop or a flood zone in which to save lives but this kills Canada's chances. As well Justin Mensah Coker has also returned to Canada here is the lineup.

4. Brian Erichsen - B.C. Bears/CRC (Vancouver, B.C.)

Looks like Rusty was bang on with his pick of Evans at fullback. Pritchard has been moved to 11 probably to cover for the absent Mensah Coker. White being scrum half instead of Fairhurst is a devastating blow to the teams chances. Cudmore stays in the lineup obviously and Hirayama is on the bench for cover at 9 and 10. Other then those changes the lineup is very similar to the Italy "A" match.

Unfortunate that His Eddness had to depart. Perhaps White can up his game and have another performance like be did against France last year. My personal opinion is he is 4th on the depth chart but the great brain trust that is Rugby Canada sees different. In my opinion Phil Mack should be the number 9 behind the great one. JMC has seen his last days with the national 15 team. Perhaps there is a place for him in 7s but I think you can forget about him otherwise. His defense is suspect, his work rate simply isn't there and he is not a great kicker of the ball. The modern wing must be a fullback in disguise and he just doesn't cut it ie. Pitch to 11. The Smith decision is just Rugby Canada politics in action. He has no business in that spot ahead of Trainor. The scrum basically picked itself. I would have liked to see Dala start ahead of Sinclair but I'm happy with it either way.

England Saxons: M Brown (Harlequins), C Sharples (Gloucester), H Trinder (Gloucester), B Twelvetrees (Leicester), M Benjamin (Worcester), R Clegg (Harlequins), P Hodgson (London Irish); M Mullan (Worcester), D Paice (London Irish), M Stevens (Saracens), M Botha (Saracens), G Kitchener (Worcester), J Gaskell (Sale), T Johnson (Exeter), J Crane (Leicester, capt)
Replacements: J Gray (Harlequins), N Catt (Bath), J Gibson (London Irish), C Fearns (Sale), M Young (Newcastle), A Goode (Saracens), T Ojo (London Irish).

Gaskell being used as lock replacement but starting, risky move - what if he goes off injured and then one of the other locks goes off too?

Not a bad team though, Brown back at FB and Benjamin/Sharples on the wings :D
Wouldn't have started Hodgson though

I'm happy with that :)

Would have started Young instead of Hodgson and Fearns in place of Botha, but neither is the end of the world.
I just wish they'd give up this silly notion that Gaskell is a 6...

Agreed about Smith, Rusty. He should "maybe" be on the bench but the way Trainor has played he should be starting.

I had noticed JMC only really being used as a sub lately to try and make an impact, I know he nearly cost Canada the Portugal game in November due to some bizarre play in defence(luckily Pritchard bailed him out) maybe he can stay in 7's or occasionally join the national team when they have games against opposition like Belgium and we field basically a Canada "A" team.

Unreal ... Ed having to start bailing out the World Economy ...

Crane has played lock for Saxons before, so I guess that'll be Plan C.

I'm 0 for 2 on predictions (or at least, supporting) today so far, hopefully Saxons get the win so I get one right at least

God this ****ING English commentators are ****ing awful. All they do is drone on about random England players and tid-bits about them. A Canada player will do something fantastic but they are still talking about some B side England player for 5 minutes in the most boring drone-like tone ever. Any time something happens, it's because of what the English players did. Might have to mute it.

Plus Shaun White is ****ing awful, get him out of the squad.

edit- anyone else see O'Toole get tackled at the back of that scrum? HOW IS POITE A WORLD CUP REFEREE IF HE MISSES A TACKLE OFF THE BALL?

edit2- ouch....bad decision by Hearn, shame cuz I really rate him too. Good on Miles Benjamin

There's nothing wrong with Jonnie Hammond or Dean Ryan commentating.

Canada are looking good on defence, but going forwards they're not great
Box kicks are dreadful

Canadians can play seriously good rugby when they want to...

Chauncey O toole is one of my new favourite players ..runs it hard but always somehow strafes too the side of the tackler after the impact..lovely hands too.

Commentary is fine, Sean White looks awful. Pritchard has to hit those penalties even from the tougher angles, good first half for Canada from some points of view, perhaps they need to get Mackenzie in at #9 for the 2nd half.

Edit- Get Ciaran Hearn off the field absolute rubbish there already cost Canada a try, luckily Pritchard to save the day. LOL five seconds after I typed that Trainor came on for him.

I wouldn't mind Miles Benjamin being in the England squad....

If Strettle can be in the EPS as just a wing, then why not put Benjamin in instead? He's actually good
