[2025 Six Nations] Scotland vs Italy - 01/02/25

Good first and last 20 mins from Scotland but the middle was concerning. The step down from Tuipolotu and Cummings to McDowell and Gray is too big. Gray will toil against the Irish pack if he starts next weekend. I'd start Gregor Brown with Gilchrist and play Jordan at 12. Russell seemed to struggle without Sione sharing the workload and decision making. I think Jordan fills that void better than McDowell does.

The best thing about Scotland's display yesterday was their defence. Take away the silly Russell intercept and it would have been much more comfortable.

It was a decent start to a 6N overall, Scotland can't really complain too much about a BP and victory but it's a strong indicator of what we know they can pull off which puts a slight dampener on it.

Italy had a good spell in the second half, I'll be backing them to pump Wales next week in all honesty I think they are worthy of a good victory somewhere. Some real talent and skill in that team.

Jordan has to start v Ireland, I think it will help Russell greatly and it brings potency into our backs that McDowell just didn't quite hit the mark with. It wasn't vintage Finn, couple of daft ones which he fully admitted to but need to be more settled and assured next time out. The forwards will need a big shift against the Irish if we are to have a chance - Scotland are one of the few teams that have made Ireland really work in the past few 6N, made them look very ordinary for big spells. Have to hit the scoring big time or it will be an embarassment.
