England v New Zealand

tindal vs, Sonny bill will be interesting - though after the way Kahui demilished tindal last english game I remember maybe 2008? I dont have much hope he will do better against Sony.

As for Toeava, I think he is much better at fullback or wing, there is less pressure on him - more time to field the ball = less knock on's and more time to run and pull out that killer swerve of his. The game in 2008 when Toeava came on early to replace Sivivatu's wing in the 19 - 0 win over south africa sticks out for me. He was very good in that game, to me always looks better at the back than mid-field.

This game is really about the forwards though, englands only hope lies with their forwards and slowing the game down. If the AB's gain parity there the AB's backs should be too much for england.

I'm picking a big game from mills - this sort of game could suit him, even though they know they shouldn't I can see the english kicking to the back and leaving gaps and I think he could get on the scoreboard, maybe more than once. Or setting up trys for Gear & Roks.

This is twickers though, england are always 20% better at their home ground so what should be an easy win the the AB's could be a tight one. You never know.

Let's all judge players on their form from two years ago!
SBW is good at the play the ball, wonder how he'll fair on saturday? Some massive shoulder charge tackles as well, wonder if they'll play a part in his game :p

Tindalls been doing well this season, and had a solid summer tour, if a little uninspiring.

England assistant mocks Tri Nations rugby

The southern hemisphere rugby bashing has begun with England assistant Mike Ford mocking the Tri-Nations and vowing his side will show them how to play real Test football.
As Wales mull over a decision on whether leaving the Millennium Stadium roof open would help them against speedy Australia, Ford risked firing up New Zealand for their clash with England in London on Saturday (Sunday morning AEDT).
"There were three games in the Tri-Nations that produced an average of 77 points and that, for me, isn't Test rugby," Ford told local media.

"Even Saturday (in Hong Kong), which was a fantastic game, there were still 50 points scored. We want to make this a good, old-fashioned Test rugby game."
Wales, usually the UK's most adventurous side, have said they will target Australia's forwards, especially the scrum, this weekend but will still endeavour to use the ball, although an open roof in the rain could prove tempting.
But England, who Australia meet next weekend, are unapologetic about being the party poopers at Twickenham.
"Everyone is talking about how many tries are going to be scored, how quick the rucks are and how exciting it all is," defence coach Ford said.
"But our job defensively is to work out a way to stop that.
"When the players keep hearing about how exciting it is, deep down they will be putting up the shutters."
The southern hemisphere is currently home to the world's top three ranked sides, while England are ranked sixth and Wales No.9.

I really really hope this is just a smoke screen intended to lull NZ into a false sense of security which will allow England to come out and play some great attacking rugby and run the All Blacks off their feet, somehow I doubt it though....
What a ******* dumb thing to say. I hope NZ put 60 points on the English to prove to Mike "fuckhead" Ford that his entire philosophy on rugby is not only boring and outdated but also very ineffective...

Give it a rest mate.. The negatives far outweigh the positives. Honestly are you his mum or what?

You could, you know, give it a rest too? Bit rich.

I dunno, wouldn't want it to turn into an enjoyable, fun game now, would we? Rather slog it out, a duel of kickers, maybe have the wings touch the ball occasionally? I'd rather they just chased kicks though, like good wingers.

I think it was the last game of the Tri Nations, 2008.

Edit: From AllBlacks.com http://allblacks.com/index.cfm?layout=displayNews&newsArticle=8756

Doesn't actually go into a lot of detail, but I'm sure you get the idea. People have conveniently forgotten Donald's good performances.

that pic is bad >.<

he was also very good 80min Auckland last year against Aussie, pretty much man of the match.

And the Sydney game last year that carter won with a 78min penalty, donald was instramental in that game and the result.

it was is performance over that time that won him the starting 12 jersey over Nonu & McAlister. I'd say up till last weekend Donald has never had a bad performance off the bench. IMO it's the only time he's come off the bench and not made a +ve impact for the AB's.

He does need to become more consistant. But he has shown that he can cut it at test level. Maybe with the experience he gets on this tour he can get that consistancy that's needed. Having a stop start carrer and also being stuck behind Carter doesn't help.

He will get a good run on this tour and I do think that if he doesn't produce the goods he may not get another chance next year. The AB coaches have faith in him, they could easily bring slade over to fill Sivivatu's spot but they havn't.

Just have to wait and see.

LOL...Mike Ford aye...where did he pop out of??

It wouldn't surprise me if $BW is used almost completely has a feeder, giving Gear and Nonu a lot of space to work in. That's one of the few reasons I can see them picking Nonu over Smith for. I think a lot of people will end up disappointed because Williams won't be making numerous break, I think he'll be setting them up, drawing attention away from others.

He didn't disgrace himself but I don't think he played particularly well, I can't remember him doing anything well... memorable?

He make a kick down field then stole the ball from the receiver or something, I can't remember exactly :p Nothing spectacular, but it was solid.

Fond memories. I remember this one time when Donald caught a ball, and another time he passed it. Pure class. Why isn't he starting?

Does anyone know what channel the game is on?

I'm in Australia and I want to catch the game. Is it on Fox or Setanta Sports?

I agree, his play is so much more conservative than some people think, at least it has been with Canterbury, maybe that's the northerners who haven't watched him in the ITM. His role for Canterbury has been, and I think it should be for the All Blacks, one of distribution primarily running good lines to feed his outsides. The defence will have to give him so much attention that it is bound to create space or risk constant breaks from offloads, getting busted up the middle and broken in half by that fend which I hope to see more of.
I'm sure we will see an intercept or two eventually off an offload, but not the way people think, if it happens it will likely be from a team mate not supporting well. His decision making about when to throw it has been very good and execution almost faultless. His style particularly the offloading should work well within the kind of gameplan the All Blacks have been using, keeping the ball alive.

Apparently Smith has a minor hamstring ****le which is why Nonu is in otherwise I think the coaches would have gone for a Williams/Smith combination as Smith basically has his head screwed on. Be interesting to see how Nonu goes actually without Smith and after his average performance last week. He'll either carve up or try too hard and push too many things. As for Williams the ABs will look to use him just as Canterbury did in his first few starts. I'm expecting nothing spectacular from him all he needs to do is prove he can play to the teams patterns and hold his own in defence.
